Michelle Belcher | 6 comments I hope someone can help with this book title. I believe I read it in the 90's. There were 2 guys possibly brothers who were at odds with one another. Part of the book was an expedition sailing down the Amazon river. The men wore Tricorn hats. One of the brothers ended up having to maneuver through the jungle. He survived an anaconda attack. I believe he caught and ate a monkey, killed a tapir to survive. He witnessed the indigenous tribe stuff a man's anus with honey and staked out on an ant hill (gross I know). This brother became part of the tribe. He then led this tribe on the attack of the flotilla like ships sailing the Amazon river. At the end, this brother found his El Dorado as living in peace in the jungle with his tribe. Any help would be appreciated.

Michelle, please add some plot details to your header which could get your query solved faster. If you are unable, a mod can help.

In what historical era do you think it was set?

Michelle Belcher | 6 comments Thank you!!! I updated the header. I am thinking perhaps 1700's was the era. I've searched and searched and cannot find the author or title. I am not trying to be lazy just posting here 😂. It is driving me crazy trying to find this book. After reading about Gonzalo Pizarro and De Orellana expeditions on the Amazon river, this book seems like a fictional tale that is similar.

Michelle Belcher | 6 comments Yes I did go through those as they popped up on my extensive search.. I've also searched mato grosso because one part of the book was about 1 guy who trekked through that area hardly surviving. Funny that the book was fiction, but all I can find are true stories.... I am still on the hunt to find this book. I so appreciate your help!!!!! We need more people in the world like you ♥️

Arielle Masters | 252 comments Could it have been The Storyteller by Mario Vargas Llosa, Helen Lane (Translation)? It's not set in the 1700s, although there are folktales woven in, but it does take place around there and it contrasts the narrator with the Storyteller (who lives in the jungle) of the title.
