Greta Standish | 1 comments I am an English teacher with a reading endorsement. As an English teacher, I find myself reading everything. If a student is reading a book, I will read it so I can talk to them about the book (and to ensure they actually read it). I do the same with my five children. I am currently reading the Lunar Chronicles in order to discuss the books with my 12-year-old.

I have been a voracious reader all my life and have been know to read more than one book a day, neglecting all other responsibilities. I am currently stuck on romance, and young/new adult fiction, but can be coerced into reading just about anything.

Reading is my passion, and I would love to work with writers, helping them fine tune their craft.

Contact me if you think that I would be a good fit for you.

Greta

Andrea Churchill | 34 comments Hi, my name is Andrea. My book is called Ilere of the Woods, it has a 43500 word count.

Lerewood is a small, isolated town set in the middle of a haunted wood, in which a legendary creature resides. Though the townspeople suffer from starvation and live in a society that resembles a pack of animals rather than civilization, the town never seems to die off. Legends say the town is cursed never to see the outside world, if one even existed, and the creature keeps them isolated by killing anyone who tries to escape. No one from Lerewood has ever seen another town or a person from another land. Anyone who enters the forest never comes out.
One man, depressed and tired of his pain and abuse from his monstrous wife, decides to commit suicide by entering the wood. He deliberately searches for the creature, only to realize she isn't as evil as everyone thought.

Leslie Wibberley (feismom) | 19 comments Hi Greta, I have a manuscript that I would love feedback on.
.My main character is a smart and sassy, fiddle playing, grade seven student; full of humor and strength. This literary work of magical realism is complete at 49,000 words.

THE INDIGO RAT DIARIES, is the story of Anastasia Anatole, an Indigo rat with beautiful blue fur. She has a pet ladybug named ‘Fluffy’, a passion for Celtic fiddle music, and is completely obsessed with the color blue. She and her family have moved to a new city. As the start of the new school year draws near, her mom and dad share some interesting, and perhaps even disturbing, news with her. Unlike her old neighborhood, which was rich with rats of every color, this new one has no Indigo rats at all.

Anastasia’s not immediately concerned; back home she had friends with fur of many different colors, and not many of them Indigo. Her parents raised her to look beyond the color of a rat’s fur. But before the school year starts, Anastasia must learn the unfortunate truth, her family will likely face discrimination because of the color of their fur.

She’s initially angry with her parents for moving her to this new neighborhood, but later resolves to try and change everyone’s attitude regarding Indigo rats. She faces many challenges as she sets out to do so; especially in the form of one particularly rude and intolerant rat, Leroy Leopold, who seems determined to make her life difficult.

Will her quirky sense of humor and passion for music be enough to finally bring an end to the incessant bullying by her nemesis?

THE INDIGO RAT DIARIES: ANASTASIA THE BLUE follows a determined and strong-willed rat’s journey as she discovers, that in order to change others’ attitudes, she must first change her own.

Inara | 9 comments Hi Greta - I'd really appreciate a beta read of my NA romance, Kissing Toads and Princes, length 72K - hope you're available! It appears to be a good fit with your interest areas.

Here's a synopsis:

You’re supposed to be happy at college – young, footloose and fancy free. But let’s face it, when all the rah-rah-rah of orientation is over, what’s often left is a big heap of loneliness.

That’s what happens to Jenny. So when sort-of handsome, slightly weird Greg asks her out, she says yes. To her dismay, she finds that instead of making her feel less lonely, Greg turns her off with his obsession with money – and she suspects that he lets his roommates listen at the door when they have sex.

Jenny wonders what it would be like to go out with dazzlingly good-looking Devin Bartok, the president of the student council, who’s always surrounded by a sea of interested girls. There’s no way he’d ever go out with me, Jenny thinks, he’s out of my league.

Or is he? Jenny must battle her fear of rejection to find out.

Please let me know if you want to go ahead with it. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,

Inara

Tony Martineau (postgrid) | 10 comments Do I have the book for you. I'm looking for a beta reader for a romance, post apocalyptic, survival book with teens. We are just about ready to publish. 80,000 words. Let me know your email so I can send you a Google Doc link.

Our story starts with destruction of the power grid (Arizona) and involves a young nurse who makes her way out of town to her mother's ranch. She picks up a wounded police officer on the way... We have gun battles, build solar ovens, fix the windmill, lots of horses...and it is a romance.

Let us, my husband and I write together, know if you would like to try it.

Shah Wharton (shahw1) | 20 comments Hello :)

Shah Wharton here, and I need Beta Readers and CP's for three short stories.

I have three very different post-apocalyptic stories that need some love, and I’d love some feedback from interested readers. If anyone has the time to help me out that would be much appreciated. They need your good sense and fresh perspectives, so I'm asking around for the critiques/alpha/beta readers.

***If this genre in general doesn't suit you, but you know someone else who might be interested, please pass it on.***

So... here's what's available in a little bit more detail:

The first story, (entitled, The Dead Party) was traditionally published two years ago, but I've always thought it might need a new ending, so you could help me with that. This is a political satire with zombies, but not horror, and comes in at around 5k words.

One (entitled, A Slow Burn) which I haven’t looked at in years. I'm wondering if it has legs, and with a little reader love, whether I can get it to a publishable state. This is more thriller/horror in genre and comes in at around 11k.

The third story, and shortest at around 2k words, is a monologue (entitled, A Journal Of Decline) is a stark look at how a young woman and her baby deal with the aftermath of nuclear war. Nothing supernatural in this.

All stories are post-apocalyptic in very different ways. Anyone who fancies reading through a couple, one, three, please let me know a shahharton@gmail.com.

Many thanks for reading :) X
