SOLVED. Fiction book about a family and a letter set during winter. [s]

I'm looking for a book I read awhile back, probably late 90s early 00s. I remember it was about a family and something about a letter keeps popping up in my mind. I think it was set during winter possibly around Christmas. I'm pretty sure the book had a blue cover and a small picture of a house in an oval shape. I thought it was by Maeve Binchy, but it seems all her books are set in Ireland and this book took place in the US.

I'm sorry this seems so vague and I hope I'm not confusing multiple books.

It was adult fiction, drama. I wouldn't call it romance, but mainly chick lit.
