I'm just getting into this series. What are some of the best books in the series? Favorite?

Read them in the order they were published!!!!!!!

They're all very good. The only one I didn't care for was A Tan And Sandy Silence because of the ending, but that is strictly a personal opinion.

Daniel, I've read all of the Travis tales multiple times, and recently reread with pleasure several that I'd recommend, particularly those at the end of the series: Lonely Silver Rain and Cinnamon Skin. Would also highly recommend one of his stand-alones: Girl, Gold Watch ...

It is a wonderful series. If you are just starting, you are in for a treat. I'd also recommend one of his stand alone novels called Slam the Big Door. It is a great read.

And try not to think about Leonardo DiCaprio playing McGee in the upcoming movie version of DEEP BLUE!

I think my favorites are the ten or so he wrote in the sixties, particulary the first four, and the first few in the 70s. The first four were all published in 1964, implying he had them all written and ready for publishing. There is a continuity in the first four that isn't in the rest of the series.

I Believe the Best of the Travis McGee Books was Dress Her In Indigo. This Book really disturbed me in a way and left me thinking about the Characters for weeks afterwards.Otherwise I do like most everything written by John D. MacDonald and I am still working my way through reading his novels. The Best of his novels that I have read so far I believe to be Murder In The Wind,A Key To The Suite and The Last One Left.John D. MacDonald is hands down one of my favorite Writers.

Are you still reading Trav McGee? My favorite is THE SCARLET RUSE. But I am never disappointed by John D. MacDonald. I have read all the McGee series several times. Travis McGee such a great character. Every bit as good as James Bond, IMHO.

I almost envy the voyage of discovery upon which you are about to embark. My recommendation? Quit your job. Buy a boat, a deck chair, and a buttload of Landshark. You're going to be out of circulation awhile.
