Book: Home for the Holidays by Sara Richardson by Sara Richardson
Read: 12/28/23
Rating: ★★.5
Review: I'm sorry to say I was underwhelmed. I didn't really like any of the sisters. But I truly disliked their mother. My favorite character was the handsome, helpful small town doctor, Ike. Though Mags' firefighter husband, Eric, was a great guy too.

Marla | 2844 comments Barb, I pick Watchdog (A Melanie Travis Canine Mystery, #5) by Laurien Berenson . I'm a sucker for cute covers. Hopefully, you haven't read it yet, we've left you hanging for a few weeks.

Barb | 1895 comments Thanks, Marla, but I actually have read that one - and a couple of the others too, so I'll post a new set shortly :)

First, though...
Jennifer, I'm picking Northwoods by Amy Pease for you. That sunset (or is it a sunrise?) is gorgeous!

Now, my next five :
The Summer We Started Over by Nancy Thayer A Calamity of Souls by David Baldacci To Slip the Bonds of Earth by Amanda Flower The Good Thief's Guide to Venice (Good Thief's Guide, #4) by Chris Ewan Bickering Birds (Cozy Corgi Mysteries, #3) by Mildred Abbott

message 963: by Marla (new)

Marla | 2844 comments I finished Dead Silence (The Body Finder, #4) by Kimberly Derting and it was okay. It didn't feel like the last book in this series. Some things were tied up, but not everything. I wouldn't be surprised if the author was leaving it so she could write another book at a later time. But it was published in 2013, so the author hasn't done it yet.

If you've not read anything by Elin Hilderbrand before, I'd say you're in for a treat, but I can't remember which genre/s you prefer. I'd call her books women's fiction, but usually with some meat to them. They're not all light and fluffy, but they *are good beach reads if you're into that kind of thing :)

This author's books are right up there with those of Mary Kay Andrews, although there's no mystery in Thayer's books. If you need a family-themed beach read, this would be a good choice :)

The Summer We Started Over, by Nancy Thayer, finished 4/8 ★★★★

I really liked that one, even though it almost seemed like it was 'copying' the style of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone with lots of 'asides' from the author to the reader.

Yeah, all I have to say about that, Fiona, is that looking around for excuses to buy books just uses up valuable time you could spend buying books. Obviously counter-productive.
