Sorry, I missed your question... I think Fiji & India's Hindi & Urdu are similar enough for us to be able to understand each other. They seem to be using more pure (difficult and polite) words whereas here it's made quite simple with native and English mixtures (one funny example, "cane top" is usually called "kan-ta'p" here. I think the British people tried to teach these people some English words which they got quite wrong, LOL. Also, lots of mixtures since, people from different casts and groups from India were brought to Fiji, and in India, each state has very much there own language i.e. Tamil, Hindi, Telugu etc...

The name for the natives and its language (iTaukei) was changed recently from 'Fijian' since Fijian is our nationality. I also like the sound of it :)

Thank you Aesaan, it's very interesting.

Lisa (ylisa7) | 381 comments Thank you all for the congratulations. Mike has been my best friend for 30 years:) We will be camping/rving first then getting married on the 7th in a helicopter flying over Niagara Falls. Then off to a party in NY with his family. It should be pretty cool. We are excited:)

You are not the only one :-)

message 60: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Vicki,

I can't decide yet. The two I like most are: The Lucky Ones & Always.

message 61: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Aesaan, Ann, Kirsten & Sue,

I'm not sure if you missed my list or just didn't find anything you like on it. I would appreciate your votes, but don't feel forced to do so. Perhaps you can even help with the tie and if not I'll try to read both books.

message 62: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Sorry, Agnieszka .... I haven't been on recently. I'll get right on it.

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments hi Agnieszka, I just voted - those cyborg crime novels look really interesting...I hope one gets picked so I can read your review

(Sorry - I don't think I helped with your tie)

I was very impressed with Niagara Falls. We traveled up in the glass enclosed elevator....although my sister-in-law turned her back to the view. She suffered from a case of vertigo.

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments I have jumped the gun and just finished Silent Scream.

Anyway, it was way ahead in the voting so hope no one minds.

It was a quick read, which for me, is not always a good sign with a book. However - it was a really good one - just like you all said.

Silent Scream (D.I. Kim Stone, #1) by Angela Marsons

No worries - I know summer time is for some people off-line-time and we are only half way through the month so far :-)

I love technology and cyber-thrillers so much and have quite a bunch of those - another one I'm looking forward to read is: The God's Eye View and hope I can concentrate better the next few weeks and read a little more again and hopefully come to this soon.
No worries about the tie - I want to read all of the books from my list as soon as I can so I'll just decide on my mood between these two or start both at the same time.
I just got another one for free :-) See Me Not by Janelle Harris => https://www.amazon.com/Janelle-Harris...

I'm glad you liked Silent Scream - there are another four or five in the series you can enjoy ;-)

message 68: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Thanks Aesaan, you broke the tie and it looks like I'll start with Cold Hearted (Cold Justice, #6) by Toni Anderson - my personal favorite :-)

message 69: by Aesaan (new)

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments I'm sorry I didn't vote earlier, I wasn't active, and I got a bit sick, got cold...
And you're welcome Agnieszka, I wasn't actually looking to break the tie however, Cold Hearted caught my attention :-)

For me it's obviously, Mystic River. I have not watched the movie yet... and I have not even read the synopsis... hoping to be thrilled ☺

message 70: by Aesaan (new)

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments I'm not sure, but Sue seems to have placed her choices in June thread. I just vote here.

My vote for Sue is:
The Strangers by Harlan Coben

message 71: by Ann (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments I went rollerblading at the weekend and fractured my wrist :( :(

Ended up in the operating theatre and they put in a metal plate, then I stayed overnight at hospital so I could have morphine :(

The pain was terrible and I've been feeling v. sorry for myself :(
I'm home now and can't swim, can't drive, can hardly get dressed etc...

My spirits are coming back today and I'm thinking what I can do -

lots of reading (!)
and lots of writing (!) - I'm halfway through writing my second crime/suspense/thriller and, who knows, with weeks of inactivity ahead of me, I might finish it over the summer

message 72: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Oh dear, Ann, a metal plate for a fracture sounds intense! Is it your dominant hand? Good for you for seeing a bright side

message 73: by Ann (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments Intense is a good word for it, Perri.
It was a bad one, though I have nothing but praise for the ambulance crew and the operating theatre team - they were all so nice.

message 74: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis Oh No Ann!
Take care and let it heal properly.
I hope you feel better soon. (And read LOTS of good books to take your mind off it)

message 75: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) | 623 comments Oh no Ann! I had a bad rollerblading accident a few years ago and haven't been since. But mine wasn't that bad! Feel better. Not being able to do those things really makes you realize how much we take it for granted. I love swimming

Good luck with the writing, I'd like to check out your first one. I always see it in the Giveaways :)

message 76: by Aesaan (last edited Jun 21, 2017 01:10PM) (new)

Aesaan (highlycaffeinatedreader) | 163 comments Oh God, Ann, I wish you get well soon, and good luck for your writing on the bright side. You seem very strong spirited.

I had a bus accident last year where I broke by tooth and damaged few... I get a terrible feeling everytime I have to travel by bus, and I do tht daily...

message 77: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (ylisa7) | 381 comments Ann that is terrible. I wish you a speedy recovery. Nothing like being down and in pain.

message 78: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 1462 comments Ann, hope you'll get soon better and I hope the pain will stay bearable to have at least some fun.
I hope your weather in France isn't that hot as in Germany (today 35°C tomorrow planned 37°C) or you have a possibility to stay somewhre cool. I know how it is if you have to deal with such heat shortly after an surgery - not very fun.

message 79: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Ann ,I second the sentiments from Agnieszka. Hopefully you are not experiencing the heat wave we are having here in Southern California. Thank goodness I live fairly close the coast since some of the inland communities are seeing 120 degree temperature. Our high here has been around 85.

I don't know how to convert that into celsius.

message 80: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) It's been in the mid-90s here in eastern Washington State.

What part of Eastern Washington? My sister used to live in Moscow Idaho. That wheat country in Washington is beautiful.

message 82: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I live in Kennewick (one of the Tri-Cities) at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake, & Yakima Rivers. The Palouse is gorgeous but very lonely.

message 83: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments I grew up in Portland but spent many days with my family digging clams and oysters in Washington. My aunt lived in Gig Harbor.

message 84: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) So different from where I live, Patricia! All the roofs have moss growing on them and the slugs are so big they have to be licensed.

message 85: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Kirsten, that is funny. We are infected with bed bugs. All of the hardware stores in the area are getting wealthy off the foggers and sprays. I have never experienced anything like this.

We were told that anyone who has stayed in a hotel or motel carries them in their clothes and are nice enough to leave them on the furniture of those they visit. Geez!

message 86: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Oooh, I remember a couple of years ago there was an infestation of bed bugs in the Midwest. Didn't know they were this far west... nasty!

We usually get an infestation of something every year. One year it was army worms, we had to wear shoes in the basement all summer. Nothing's worse than walking barefoot on army worms - gross!

message 87: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments We have been washing everything we don't use daily and packing them into plastic bags until we fog. This has been a nightmare.

We have friends who have a baby and are not enthused about fogging. They find the little buggers climbing their walls. Until this year, I couldn't have identified a bed bug. I've not seen one before.

Hey Dana - when I was in the ambulance I decided I'd never go rollerblading again but I enjoy it so much I think I've changed my mind - I'll let you know in a few months time...

message 91: by Ann (last edited Jun 21, 2017 11:52PM) (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments As for the heat wave, it's mid 30s celcius here in the south of France - pretty standard for the summer. If it gets over 40 then that's bad news but we haven't had that yet.

Agnieszka - we have a sea breeze from the Mediterranean most afternoons, so I guess that makes it more bearable.

according to google -
120Farenheit = 48celcius (wow that's HOT)
85Farenheit =29 celcius

P.K. Davies | 549 comments Much sympathy Ann. I didn't try rollerblading until I was turned sixty; didn't fall though. I know pain is about the worst element to attempt to describe but to relate your unfortunate state with a book I am reading, Power Down by Ben Coes; given five stars, worthily, by Sean, the only thing I found unbelievable about it is that he seems to have no experience of pain. He has people with all broken fingers, one with both arms broken and still fighting and another with shot knees and still talking back; I think the body cuts in before then and one loses consciousness. I once got my finger stuck in a sash-window and hung there with it broken and had to fight not to faint. I managed to get my other hand up and fee myself and fell three feet. I then went to work. That's about as good as it gets I think, even in thrillers. Good luck with your rehab

message 96: by Ann (new)

Ann Girdharry (anngirdharry) | 313 comments hello P.K, thank you for your sympathies.

Gosh - your sash window experience sounds dreadful and you're right that extreme pain can close down the mind and body very effectively.
Amazing you went to work afterwards.

In fact, I don't really remember how I got back to my car, nor how I managed to get my phone out the boot. It was 8am on Sunday morning and I was at a lovely cycle path in the woods that's busy later in the day but isolated early on - so no one was yet around to help.
(I've been doing it for 3 years and I've fallen before but never like that.)

Still, that's life....

I love to read Cussler's Dirk Pitt series, and I always wondered about that man's medical bills.

Not just broken limbs - broken ribs, gunshot wounds, etc.
