Sci-Fi Summer Read-a-Thon 2017

I will always owe the inspiration for this event to Mallory (The Haunted Reading Room)...and so, we're back for our second year!

Details:

Read-a-Thon dates: Thursday, June 1 at 12:00am CDT until Wednesday, June 7 at 11:59pm CDT (adjust your time zone accordingly). We do a different day configuration (rather than starting on a Monday and ending on a Sunday) to go along with the weirdness of Sci-Fi. 👽
Since Sci-Fi is a very specific genre, this will be strictly reading science fiction during the event. However, since fantasy is so closely related to science fiction, if you feel more comfortable reading fantasy, that is also fine.
to check in on social media, we'll use hashtag #SciFiSummerJune
as usual, you do not have to have a blog to participate...feel free to link up and check in from Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, etc. These days, it seems most of our activity goes on in our Facebook group which I love. 😍 We have a great community over there...and it's not just during readathons. Everyone should feel free to post in there any time.

As with the Christmas Spirit Readathon, I usually do not secure prize donations, but I will be offering a couple of prizes from me.

I hope you're as excited as I am that we are continuing this tradition! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me via the contact tab, or hit me up in the Facebook group.

Jane | 1438 comments Goal

I am not sure I'll read more than one actual Sci-Fi book but I might read one fantasy as well. So my goal will be two books.

My Sci-Fi book which is a re-read:
The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

My Fantasy book if I get it in time from the library - I own this book, I just don't know which box it is in!
The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke

Jane | 1438 comments Well, I got it from the library and have read it

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke 6/5-17

It wasn't as good as I had hoped. I really enjoyed her Inkworld series and also the Mirrorworld I have read.
This just wasn't as good and I didn't feel as gripped as I have in her other books.

Michelle Stockard Miller (michelleamiller) | 23 comments I have this one, but haven't read it. I still need to read the Inkworld series too. So many books...

Hope you're enjoying it. Thanks for joining in again!

Jane | 1438 comments I can definitely recommend the Inkworld books.

I enjoy taking part in your challenges, I'm don't write much on Facebook but I do see most of the posts.

Jane | 1438 comments Last day and I managed to finish my Sci Fi book yesterday.

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

This was an okay book but I still feel it wasn't as much sci fi as about human behaviour and they way we treat new places and people.

Jane | 1438 comments Wrap Up Post

All in all I finished 4 books this week of which 2 fit this RaT.

I read my two planned books. Neither of the two books were great but they were okay. The Thief Lord a bit of a disappointment from the other books I have read by Cornelia Funke and The Martian Chronicles was more or less as I remembered it.

Thanks for hosting the RaT, Michelle and I am looking forward to the summer one that I will definitely be able to take part in this year.
