Dominique Kyle (dominiquekyle) | 56 comments Thanks Brandon! Yes, you're right. I do know a lot about the three cases that have happened in Britain, and my brother is heavily involved in trying to sort out the problems in the aftermath of the Rotherham trials. This week a Member of Parliament has resigned over it. And another identical set-up has been uncovered this week in another city, Newcastle. The Parliamentary investigation showed that girls had been systematically groomed and abused by these specifically Pakistani gangs over the past 20 years (with all the abusers coming from a small area in a single province of Pakistan) and many hundreds of girls have been affected. Social workers had claimed that the girls were 'willing child prostitutes' and didn't do anything to help them. There is no such thing as a 'child prostitute'. There are only 'child abuse victims'. I kept it toned down for the book, and left the worst of the abuse out of it, as the aim of it was to speak to teens to help them spot this sort of grooming, and to caregivers so they'd understand more what might be going on. It wasn't my aim to upset any readers. One of the weaknesses of the book is that I'm using characters that have been around for 4 previous books and who had significant story lines in them, but were only glancingly referred to in this one. I am having to consider re-writing this book in a way that will stand better on it's own, if it is to be used for this awareness raising purpose. Just to say, I have a lot of sympathy with those of a Muslim faith, and I was trying to point out that just because a few men from a particular background or faith abuse some girls, it doesn't mean that everyone from that same background or faith is an abuser too. Unfortunately, in the towns where it happened, it has caused a lot of tension between different communities because most people aren't that subtle in their thinking, are they? In the following book in the series I address the aftermath and the trials.
Thanks for patiently ploughing through it!

I appreciate what you are trying to accomplish and I will encourage you to continue doing so. It is often an issue that is overlooked and I loved the fact you brought you awareness. Hopefully, the two communities can bridge the gap and learn from one another while conquering the real problem.
