I second this!
The one I read for this was The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare and is a wonderful audiobook. It's a stand-alone from her mortal instruments and infernal devices series, but could probably be read on its own. It's a funny though sometimes sad light read about a warlocks adventures and romances.
I'll second Timeline by Michael Crichton - good book that I haven't read in at least 15 years & would love to read again.
I may be the only person who hasn't read A Wrinkle in Time but was hoping to read it for this one. If you've read it, and it doesn't fit the prompt, please let me know. If that proves the case, I'll jump on the Octavia Butler train as I've been checking that book out with interest of late.
Juanita - I don't think it counts. They travel through space and maybe even time, but it's a pretty linear story.
I loved Outlander and The Girl You Left Behind. Right now, I'm reading Abandon by Blake Crouch and it definitely fits the bill. The origin story takes place in 1893 and the current story in 2009.
