I saw this in a bookstore in the late 90's. And read the first few pages of this, but had to let it go.

It's set in modern urban times - where you had people who were shapeshifters who can change genders. Very neo-noir but with this fantasy/sci-fi twist to it. Definitely for adults. Writing style is done in a realistic fashion - so it gets pretty graphic.

There's apparently some raunchy sexual bits in it as well on when the protagonist character was his/her female form.

I've been trying to get a hold of this book - but can't figure out the title.
