My friend liked it! I want to read it but hopefully it’s not triggering.
I don’t really watch superhero movies. I watched Wonder Woman twice and it was so cool. Plus I loved Leigh Bardugo’s writing so I wanted to try the DC icons series but this is the only superhero I’m familiar with. The other ones will be interesting XD
It’s ok Becca. I figured this out in senior year of high school so we all make that mistake XD

Yeah! Some of us *not pointing at herself or anything* even misplace characters and universes on purpose just because they're little sadists who like to mess up with hardcore sexist fanboys *whistles*
And sometimes, we just don't care xD Specially not about discourse *groans*

<3 <3 <3 It's too much fun, and I don't take the whole "dumb girl knows nothing" too kindly.
That said, I don't know it all, just what I'm interested about. There's too many characters, universes, revamps, etc, etc...
It started way before our time too, it's not like one can buy golden age comics cheap. I have more to do with my time than research and memorize everything, just so I can argue about Ambush Bug's origin...

I am currently reading:

+my thoughts on this book change every time I pick this up, I swear

+guys this book is fantastic!
I am participating in LGBT+ OV Bingo for the next month and am welcoming any and all recs! Also, if anyone can tell me if Girls Made of Snow and Glass is #ownvoices or not I will love you for all days.

I'm actually curious if anyone has read Tiger Lily? It's not very well known. Let me know if you have, we can talk!

I'll admit I haven't even heard of Tiger Lily before but it's now on my TBR because it's sounds really promising (a lot of my reviewer friends have rated it 4 & 5 stars too!) And I can't wait for The Wicked King to come out!
By some incredible feat I am only reading one book at the moment?!

I've been reading a lot of audiobooks lately because I've been kinda slumpy and have let myself off the hook about getting all my ARCs which are now overdue done. Back to reading only what I feel like.

I'd never heard of Tiger Lily but that blurb left me more than intrigued!! I may get it.
@Becca I haven't been feeling very chirpy myself, so I'm taking it slowly. These books are fairly easy to read, and small, or I wouldn't have finished them so easily. I've been mostly reading them during breaks, at cafés and the like... I'm taking more walks, spending more time outside.. I wish the good weather comes soon, it will be good for my health, but also for my spirit, my mood.
I'm not sure if it was ever a thing where you guys live, but when I was little, an animation series was aired named Les Malleurs de Sophie/Sophie's Misfortunes/Os Desastres de Sofia. It's set in France during the 19th century and follows Sophie, her family and friends. Sophie is prone to doing naughty things and getting herself in very unfortunate situations, which can be very annoying - it was to me when I was a little 8-year-old -, but on the 2nd part there were tears, I confess.
I've always wanted to read the 3 books, and finally I've been doing just that! I found used old editions this Summer!
I'm done with both
and
. They're not great, but they're products of their time and it's interesting to read erroneous notions and all that xD Curiously, I found myself blaming some unthinkable notions and actions on the author, and not on Sophie. Who does not know that if you cut a fish it dies??
Started
. It introduces one of my young-self's otps, childhood-sweethearts Sophie/Jean, and I don't know if the series misled me, since they made a lot of changes. Hold still, my heart!

I feel like April is such a moody month in general. All the motivation and vigor of the new year has died off - I feel like I always have a depressive bout at this time, even with the good weather here.
@Becz: Yeah, I never seem to be reading what everyone else is *smh* The covers are gorgeous, and they have those old pretty B&W illustrations we don't see anymore (I say even adult books could do with some of those!).
In Portugal, April is a rainy month, Spring or no. We have a saying "Abril, águas mil" (April, a thousand waters). But we had a really cold winter, and for the last months, we've had storm after storm - they pass by the United Kingdom, and then the visit us here, since we all share the Greenwich meridian (yay -_-). So I'm still wearing Winter clothes most of the time, it's always gloomy.
This Summer they were talking about our drought, and how some of our rivers were facing the lowest levels, ever. Well, after so much rain and moisture, I hope they've risen up again at least!

At least you guys are reading. The only reading I’ve been doing is Lady Audley’s Secret (which is really good! I’m very surprised!). I’m still reading The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson which I like. Hopefully I’m going to start A Court of Mist and Fury for a buddy read and if I have the time, start Clockwork Prince (for the love of God). I’ve been meaning to start it for over two months but it hasn’t happened and it’s getting me angry.
Added it to my list haha!
You'll get there! And I'll get to chapter 8 someday xD
Is there still interest to BD Made You Up sometime?

Yes I want to buddy read Made You Up! Hopefully soon! I also want to buddy read Leah on the Offbeat because I would like to read it with you Regsly! I feel like reading Becky Albertalli’s book together is a tradition now.
Yay!
I still have to get that book! Yes, I mean, I'm already planning on talking about the film with you when it finally airs here!! It feels like tradition, indeed x'D

And I'm super keen to pick up Made You Up! I want to read Leah on the Offbeat BUT I am a terrible human and haven't read Simon vs the Homosapiens yet. Should probably do that first.

Also started Black Chuck as an ebook but haven't read much of it yet. Still kinda slumpy, anxiety has been off the freaking charts, and I'm trying to slowly tick off books one by one instead of mood reading so much because it's so daunting when I get into a slump.
Ayla was the one to suggest it, so we have to wait for her to be available too! :)
Becca, you definitely have to read that one first. It's sooo good, but above all else: chronology xD
I want to read Tyler Johnson, but I'm definitely not up for it and don't know when I will be. (not that I have it already, but you know...)

Tyler was definitely an emotional book, so it's good to be prepared for it. More than anything it made me see red. I hate human society.
Are you gonna read the entire series you reckon, Regs? It's something that another book friend SWEARS by and I promised I would read it at some point (I need to stop promising I have NO TIMEEEEE).
Currently reading:

You do you xD
I'm moving on to
, all hail the crazy king, so yeah definitely progressing with the series.
I just need to know more, curiosity and the cat. But this series isn't light-hearted and it's insane.
I think I read The Foxhole Court really fast, all things considered. So I'm taking that as a positive sign.
Christie is such tea. There's just so much class with her murders.
I see people reading Pretties, but is it a good series?

Still gonna try it out at some point.
Uglies is one of those series that I wonder how good it would be reading it for the first time now. I loved it when I first picked it up because it discussed body image with a dystopian story line. Reading it now, it's very classic early 2000's dystopia - very white, next to no diversity, but nothing overly problematic from memory.
The sport is as ridiculous as many other team sports, imo xD Mixing lacrosse, american football and the violence of hockey? Not actually unbelievable.
The drugs and everything else I leave to fiction of disbelief.
In a dystopian world it's harder to justify, since supposedly certain prejudices we have may not exist in that society? But if a caucasian author doesn't know how to write a person of colour, then maybe they shouldn't. If they're gonna get everything wrong and not do them justice...
This is why it's so hard to balance ownvoices authors and the rest. I feel like everyone deserves a chance at writing, and I feel like everyone has the right to fail. But at the same time, people with the life experiences know better, and letting certain authors continue to spread stereotypes is just a no-no. This is so complicated!

I honestly still think the absolute best answer is sensitivity readers. That way authors can write a diverse range of characters and they get honest opinions of the portrayal prior to publication.
I’m currently reading nothing as of now. I’m just trying to finish all the stuff for my college semester. In May, I’ll be free! Reading to the max!
Lucky for me, I read so much in January that I’m not behind on my reading challenge XD
But anyways The Foxhole Court sounds good! I’m interested in it despite mixed reviews. Uglies is not something I’m interested in. I feel like it’s basic dystopian and it’s just not a thing I’m into. I think dystopian is a genre I’m not really fond of anymore. But hopefully I’ll start reading soon!
Also yes ownvoices and not is very complicated. In my opinion, I rather authors just write what they know instead of going to diversity as the new “trend” *cue eye roll* If they can only write white people then let them. Better than to appropriate and just reinforce stereotypes.

You'll get your reading time soon enough :)
I love the dystopia/utopia sub-genre, but not every dystopian work. It was a subject I liked studying in college, its impact on constructions certain cultures built, blabla... But nowadays, it's mostly about YA fighting some tyrannical world, and it may come to make no sense whatsoever at the end, like the Divergent series.
I agree. Although, I think sometimes people just forget that we're all just humans. It depends from country and society, but from hanging out with my friends I just saw regular lives.
If creators sometimes focused on not the colour, but the fact that these are people, with friends, family, interests - just like everyone else... Like... If they just wrote the character thinking of "a person" without the colour connotations. Just like men writers should just write normally when they do female characters, instead of focusing on things that real women really don't perceive that way or care.

I came to this city... (to play a cards game) to tell you real fast that reading the All for the Game series was the best decision I made, it lifted my reading up (over 9000 - why am I making so many references?)
I'm almost over with
and it's been such a ride of feels! and plot-twists and pain.

As for me, currently reading:

But now Idk what to do, Becca! Feels like I lost my friends, and they left this nostalgic hole in me :v I haven't felt this in a while with books. *sniff*
Might check that webcomic!!

I don’t even know what my TBR is at this point. I started Second Chance Summer to read for my boyfriend who left little notecards after each chapter but I’m also have to get to library books. And finish series. And recommendations by friends.
When your TBR topples you over.
When your TBR topples you over.

Since my mental health and sleeping have gone down the crapper I've started being better about my sleep hygiene, which means no technology an hour before sleep. So I've stopped reading so much on my iPad. Kinda been missing the Kobo a bit too.
@Ilsen: Your boyfriend left you notes in a book?! Train mine pretty please? And I know the struggle with library books. I made a set TBR for May today and realized I didn't take into account any of the library books already on my shelf.....
@Becca Yea he did it for me. He thought it would be romantic. I didn’t expect it but he said it was like a “mini buddy read” of some sort. He knew how much I love buddy reading so yea it was really sweet. But he actually isn’t a bookworm but he read it for me ❤️

Awww that’s so cute!! My friend gave me for my birthday some cute magnetic Harry Potter bookmarks and I’m so excited to use them!!
Your guys are adorable!!! They need to start a school and teach jerks.
I'm curious, do magnetic bookmarks leave marks on the pages?
I'm curious, do magnetic bookmarks leave marks on the pages?

Guys, I am so on top of my reading at the moment I don't even understand!!! So I'm only reading two books at the moment, one audio and one ebook. Because I've changed to my ereader and I don't feel as bad taking that to work to use. AND I have a set TBR for May. Am I becoming an organized reader? I don't understand!?
So I'm a little way through The Right Thing to Do at the Time and halfway through Specials (not sure if I'm going to finish rereading this series at the moment...)
Never saw any here (not that I'm actively looking for those kinds), but friends did gift me beautiful metal and wood clip-on bookmarks and boy do they mark the page. One of my besties even gave me an intricately worked butterfly metal one that's supposed to go on the spine - but it also scratches it. *shows hands* Why.
*claps* You have found your balance, grasshopper.
Great that it's working out for you!
If you're not feeling like it, don't force it. And I'm curious about TRTtDatT

And I know the metal ones you’re talking about. I never liked them personally. And I feel like the wooden ones just never stay in my book?
Lmaoooooo xD I'm still mostly melancholic about having finished All for the games (did I mention I read the 3 books in 6 days? What did I do to myself), so I'm feeling wayyyy lost.
Yeah, I mean, they look nice, but I can't use them. They're just sort of become collector items. I do have a collection of bookmarks, so... (have so many free ones that publicize other books halp)
I've been mostly using some origami I did myself, they tuck in the page corner and it's all in peace.
The wooden ones slide away? xD

Yeah I like the origami ones.
Today, bae got me
(as you may or not know, I'm a post-Valentine baby), it arrived only the other day! She spoils me too much!!
I love the
, it's so lgtqa+ inclusive, so naturally, and I absolutely love everyone - well, the twins are kinda annoying but meh. Everyone's the cutest! Also, it's an interesting fun series (short too, but Idc)
So that's what I started reading.
Oh and picked up
again. Already had some laughs...

I love the

I’m currently reading The Impossible Knife of Memory and I’m really enjoying it! I’m almost done!

Still reading The Good Twin, it's a little cliche so far but I'm enjoying it. And started American Panda on audio!
Becca (becandbones) wrote: "Oh I’ve been really wanting to pick up that graphic series! Might be next after Paper Girls! Sucks that the shipping took so long though. Our birthdays are real close! Mine’s the day before V Day!"
It's small and easy to read, it's full of fluff and it's creative. I recommend it!
Ooooh, really? That's cool, we can now do 3-day parties xD *insert meme: Coincidence? I think NOT!*
Ilsen, so glad you're getting time and mood. Just enjoying yourself some <3
Uuuh Becca, tell us what you think of American P. laterz! I mean, some people made it sound really average and plain (and that the crush was dislikeable), so I've always been uncertain about it.

@Becca, get ready for a nerd moment: Wonder Woman is DC xD But now that you mention it, I have read more Marvel than DC. So it's amusing that I've cosplayed Black Canary and genderbent Superboy, but never any Marvel characters xD
Her cosplay was really awesome thou!
XENA! Omg yes!! I loved watching that when I was young.
Xena/Gabrielle is real xD
