ACOWAR ~ Post-Reading Discussion
My first question... what are the other three books going to be about and who will be the protagonists I feel like Feyre's narrative is done... So maybe Elain or Nesta's?
Also is Azriel and Elain going to be a ship or is it Elain and Lucien? Getting so many mixed signals.

As much as i love Cassian and Nesta, i dont need entire chapters of being in her head or Elain's for that matter. I'm not sure how they'll carry books when they are fillers for the main things going on with Feyre etc.
I want Azriel and Elain to be together because it feels natural to us as readers and i think anyway to them. Lucien wants Elain because he thinks he SHOULD be with her. Not because he knows her in any real way which is odd.
If anything, i think i want to fast forward a few years and see Feyre and Rhys child, cause i was highly upset she wasnt pregnant in this one. Its what i was waiting for from the moment she met the Carver!

I feel so sorry for Lucien. But, I like that it shows that mates don't necessarily always end up together. I wish there was some indication about what the next novels/novellas will be about. Will it follow Rhysand and a pregnant Feyre (lol omg please), Nesta and Cassian (kind of really dont want an entire book on their relationship anymore - maybe like a short novella), the Azriel x Mor x Elain x Lucien dynamic could be quite interesting...
Maas did an excellent job wrapping up a lot of plot points, but there are some loose ends still. For example:
1. What the heck ARE those queens doing locked up in that castle?
2. How will the humans and Fae SURVIVE together without a wall? There are centuries of terror and prejudice between these two groups.
3. LUCIEN'S FATHER? Hello, now. I need to see this revelation in action.
4. Will Mor tell the truth to her friends?
What else wasn't wrapped up?

I felt those were the two big plot points that were introduced and not resolved.
Lucien discovering who he really is and breaking Vassa's curse and likely whatever effect that then has on the human world and the 5 other queens.

Don't get me wrong I liked it and sobbed like a baby, but it lacked some components that ACOMAF had.
the ending left me unfulfilled. 😩
idk.... 😐

But holy Mother and Cauldron I did not expect Calanmi to have gone the way that it did! But since that is how it happened I have no idea how i didnt think of that!!

Anyway SJM said on her tour that each book in the next ACOTAR trilogy would be like a standalone focused on a different romantic paring. Together, they form a sort of story or "backbone" as she called it. The books may take place before or after the events of the first ACOTAR trilogy, maybe even both.
I loved it, and I cried so hard towards the end, but it wasn't as good as ACOMAF. ACOMAF was literally flawless though, so it was a tough act to follow.

And yet.. the end left me feeling sort of depleted. I wasn't really satisfied... Azriel, Mor, Elain and Lucien's stories were left pretty open, I just want more explanations! Not sure if I want full novels, just a couple of chapters to wrap it up a little more nicely, you know?
Although Tamlin messed up a ton in previous books, I did feel like he got some redemption, which honestly just made me feel bad for the guy. What's he going to do with his court? He has no one really, and half his court hates him. On top of that, his is the court that borders the mortal realms, and that is going to be an issue now that the wall is down..
I have to say that I absolutely loved ACOWAR, however ACOMAF for me personally will always be a favorite. The ending of the book shocked me so much and I cried, but Sarah did an excellent job of writing the ending to Feyre and Rhysand's story.
I have to say that although it would be nice to see a another mated couple be together, I just don't feel like Elain and Lucien are the right fit. Elain and Azriel however, I feel would be an interesting couple to explore. Especially because for 500 years Azriel has been chasing after Mor and I think it would be interesting to see him move on from Mor and find someone who would love and care for him as he would them. Which is why I think Azriel and Elain would be a beautiful couple because they would care for each other.

ACOWAR didnt have me in the feels except when Nesta screamed for Cassian during the battle. Tamlin and Feyre should have had a talk and Mor should have explained to Az and Feyre and Rhys should have had a kid. I know theyve got a million years together but we dont, i want it now!
If we get three couples for a book as Tristen ^^ has said then i want it to be:
Cassian and Nesta
Azriel and Elain
Mor and *insert new female character here* lol

I was so happy with how Feyre left the Spring Court but wish that she had maybe stayed a little longer or we had seen more of her there at least.

I was really disappointed with this book ! after ACOMAF i was expecting so many things and none of them happened.
Don't get me wrong there were some parts that i really enjoyed reading but there were so many problems !
1/ Feyre in the Spring court: i loved this part but it was too short and at the end of the book it seemed useless, yes useless because it didin't make any difference during that final battle.
2/ Feysand: it was perfect in ACOMAF, epic!! and what made it so beautiful was that they were constantly challenging each other, they didn't agree on many things and argued alot , but it made their interactions much more intersting. In ACOWAR everything Feyre says, Rhys agrees without questionning even if it is a stupid idea. There was too much cuddling i actually cringed at some parts. i missed the old Feysand so much, i kept waiting fo it but it didn't come.
3/ Mor : the problem wasn't her being lesbian but the fact that she knew Az loved her and never told him. Mor is such a beautiful person, I find it hard to believe she would let Az suffer in silence for 500 years just because she was scared to tell him. it just doesn't match the character that SJM built in ACOMAF.
4/ Feyre in the war: well she just fought once!!!! GOD i was so excited about her using her water wolfs or any of her power in the battlefield, to see what she was capable of but nothing happened she was just watching and it pissed me off!! i wanted to see her power ! i wanted to see her save the day, to fight with her "family" like she did in Velaris, but she kept saying that she couldn't! what happened to the Kickass Feyre from the Velaris attack? !!
5/ Hybern's king: killing him was way too easy!!!!
6/Rhys death: first, it was totally useless, second, god!! it was so predictable! And all the hight lords were there! i knew from the moment Feyre said he was dead that they would bring him back and it felt ... repetitive
7/ the ending: at the end of the book i was like :"that's it? no one dies? nothing happens after nullifying the cauldron? no major consequences?" i don't know what i expected i surely didn't want any of the inner circle to die but i was ready for it,
There were parts that i enjoyed though like The Suriel's death (I sobbed through that whole scene), Feyre and Lucian's fight against Beron's sons (When Cassian and Az arrived i jumped from my seet and i was in a library!!), Nesta and Cassian's kiss ( it was sooo good), Rhys and Feyre's reunion (god the feels T_T)
But in general ACOWAR was a disappointment! i was so emotionally committed to this series after ACOMAF that i really expected more !

About the next novels, my money is in the fact that:
1.- one will be about the queen now chrone that wants her vengance from Nesta, in this.novel perhaps Nesta and Cassian will ammm finally gets together (I don't like it but it's fine)
2. other will be about Lucien and Elain.
3.- about Azriel and Mor. she better tells him she can't love him romantically or I will hate her. what she's doing to him is low.
4- other will be about the future in Prythian,
5.- The last one I bet will be about Feysand baby n.n

i was shocked too. it does make sense when you think about it though. what with the 500 yrs of not doing anything about azriel and you never heard any talk of a serious relationship with her since she could not be who she really was. it was just flings.

Also, Feyre's relationship with her sisters really flourished towards the end and I loved that. Having found that the love you feel for your siblings is so so important and incredibly strong myself, I was so glad Maas included that element. And I think it was okay that it took a while, considering how wrecked both Elain and Nesta were after Hybern. So generally, the friendship parts of ACOWAR were stunning.

Yeah I watched the video, too.

Now that's an interesting thought! A Queen Vassa/Lucien ship? Hmm... hadn't even crossed my mind!
I am torn as to who I would like Elain to choose. I like her with either Azriel or Lucien. I think both guys would be worthy of her affections. I think though that Azriel is slightly better suited for her.
And the point Sarah made in "ACOWAR" that a mate bond could be rejected is going to play a huge part in the future between Elain and Lucien. Why would she mention it? I don't believe this is irrelevant.
I think the next books will deal heavily with this developing love triangle as well as Nesta/Cassian. I am really looking forward to that! I also anticipate the further revelation of Lucien being Helion's legitimate son and heir to his court.
Josie, we NEED to talk!!!

I totally agree with your statement, Brittany. It would've been absolutely unrealistic for everyone's story to have had a HEA ending. I thought everyone's story as it ended in "ACOWAR" was true to life.

I am not sure why there's such negativity. I also appreciated the deeper aspects of the relationships that Feyre and Rhysand had with their Inner Circle and family. This book centered on Feyre/Rhysand. Sure, the other characters were A PART of the story but not the entire essence of the story line. I believe most people with all the negative feedback rushed through the book and were looking for something entirely different and missed so much of the rich detail and depth between the pages.
I loved your statement about Sarah exploring all the different layers of these relationships. I didn't particularly care about all the blood and gore and fighting but relationships were key for me!

I agree. Look at acomaf. They would have a plan against hybern like getting the book for example, and there would be a good amount of pages before they carried it out. In between all this was character development with feyre healing and getting closer to rhys and the inner circle and i didnt hear anyone complaining about that book. The core of these books has always been about the relationships.

The end though when we thought Rhys had died. Ugh. It had me in tears.
I'm not sure if I was the only one. But did anyone else dislike the fact that Feyre didn't have any good fighting scenes?
On the topic of Tamlin, I now have mixed feelings for him. When he was being a jerk at the meeting with the High Lords and then told Hybern all their plans I was really angry at him. But then when he saved Feyre in Hybern's camp and saved Rhys and wanted Feyre happy I felt like he redeemed himself.

Yes, "ACOWAR" followed the exact same pattern as "ACOMAF" and everyone praises how good that book was. There's got to be some sort of a story line to follow so I don't know what the problem was! And again, I agree with you, Brittany. The characters didn't suffer neglect throughout the book. They were consistently developing into richer stories.
For example, Azriel. I thought we go so much bang for our buck when it came to his story and character growth this time around. He was so much more visible in this book than the last and I came to adore him even more.
And I loved, loved, loved every aspect of the relationship between Rhys and Feyre.
Every relationship was meaningful, so I for one, absolutely enjoyed them all!!

I hate to say this but out of all the characters, I think Mor fell out of my favorites category. I just can't forgive what she's done to Azriel all of these centuries. I think it's very selfish of her to string him along. I mean, he's so sweet! All he wants is LOVE!

You make a great point. I remember reading it and thinking that Mor should tell Azrial because she still loves him. Even if it is the kind of 'family' love. If she cares for him she should tell him, he would probably understand. I also agree that it is quite selfish that she would lead him on like that.

Yes! If she cared for him she would tell him. I mean 500 years is a very long time! Poor Azriel. This is just unforgivable. And she irritated me even more when she told Feyre she liked the way things were and wished to keep them that way. Really MOR?! You want to keep Azriel pining for you and using Cassian to keep him at bay? UGH!!!
