Our book starting May 7th. I've seen mixed reviews, but am excited to read this.

I'm on page 46. I found the beginning of the book very confusing. I don't know if it's just me...Maybe I was tried and unfocused when I read it...I don't know...but it seemed all mixed up.

Hahaha! Okay, so it's not just me! Well I guess that is reassuring!

Carol I started it today...only a couple of pages - not enough to get confused yet...we'll see how it goes tomorrow!

Carol I'm on pg 139. I agree, it was confusing at first keeping track of who all the characters are. I will admit - I'm pretty sure I would not have chosen to read this if it wasn't for this group, so thank you for bringing me outside of my comfort zone.

My goal is to read this Saturday night. I have tried to read it on breaks at work, but it is too hard to focus.

CeeCee I am glad you are reading books you normally would not have read. I feel the same way too.

ME too!

Carol Done! Was there any indication of the year that this story is supposed to be taking place? With all the social media references my assumption was that it was set in the present, but if this is the case I found it hard to believe that the students on the track did not have cell phones with them and that the police took so long to respond.

I couldn't finish the book...I just really didn't enjoy it that much....I couldn't make myself read it....but I find your comment very interesting, Cee Cee!

message 12: by Carol (new)

Carol I had to force myself to finish it...

Cee Cee never feel obligated to read or finish a book. We appreciate you so much!!

message 14: by Carol (new)

Carol I did feel obligated - I didn't want to let the two of you down!!!

Oh no Cee Cee don't ever feel that way! If you know early in you aren't into it you can say so and others might feel that way too.

That's true. That DID happen with "Wuthering Heights." We added it, but then in the end everyone kept voicing that they were no longer into reading it, then nobody read it!

Carol Too funny...well I may be taking your advice sooner than you expected....

Okay just finished. I got confused with all the characters. I was surprised of the way it ended with Tyler killing himself. I didn't think the writing was all that great. I didn't feel that convinced of what was going on. I remember reading one review where they said "ugh" and I would have to agree. It was on my shelf for so long so I am glad I completed it. I feel I was in high school long before all these mass shootings occurred. I definitely got a Columbine feel to it.

Carol Agree, agree, agree!

Another thing the book would have been more of a success if it was written say from Tyler's point of view and maybe a bit of insight from his sister, instead of all these people who you rarely got to know. i want to know what Tyler did when he woke up and how he got to the school. I feel all of that was lost in the book as well. I think the style of All The Bright Places would have been perfect for this book.
