ROUND 9 SUPER SPEEDY SERIES CHALLENGE
✸This is a team challenge that requires 2 books a week . The object of the game is to roll the die and move along the board. To win a team must roll past 100. Teams will roll on Thursdays & Sundays.
✸ R9 Super Speedy Sign Ups are open now through 5/23. Then teams will be formed and the game will officially start 6/1.
✸Teams will roll The Die by clicking here on Sundays and Thursdays once their team has completed their reads. Please note you will have to change the dice to ONE die.
**VERY IMPORTANT**
A team can NOT advance if all reviews are not in by the deadline. That being said, players need to have their reviews in on Wednesday (for the Thursday roll) and on Saturday (for the Sunday roll).
Note: If a player fails to have their book done two times throughout the game (excluding a prearranged absence) they will no longer be a part of the team.
Round 9 Super Series
✸This is a team challenge that requires 2 books per week. The object of the game is to roll the dice and move along the board. To win a team must roll past 100. Teams will roll on Sundays and Thursdays.
✸ R9 SS Sign ups are open now through 5/26. Then teams will be formed and the game will officially start 6/2.
✸Teams will roll by clicking the dice on Thursdays & Sundays once their team has completed their reads. Please note you will be using one die for each roll.
**VERY IMPORTANT**
A team can NOT advance if all reviews are not in by the deadline. That being said, players need to have their reviews in latest by Wednesdays & Saturdays. Technically, a review isn't late until after 11:59p on Wed or Sat. But your team captain cannot roll until ALL of the team reviews have been posted.
❖If a player fails to have their book done two times throughout the game (excluding a prearranged absence) they will no longer be a part of the team.
HOW TO PICK A BOOK:
✸ Books are based on the spot you're on not the roll of the die.
If you land on single digit spot for example let’s say you land on spot 5 then you have to read a book that's #5 in a series. For double digit numbers, for example you land on spot 48 you can read either a #4 or a #8 in a series.
✸Standalone books can be used for a 1 or a 0
✸First in a series can be used for a 1
✸I don't expect anyone to read a series out of order and for people that don't read series books that still want to play there will be an alternate option. There will be an alternate option for each spot.
✸Half books: ½ or .5 count only if they meet the page requirement AND will be judged by preceding whole number numeral on goodreads.
Example: Spot 8: A MacKenzie Clan Gathering (MacKenzies & McBrides, #8.5) would count for spot 8 because it meets the page limit.
✸ Books in multiple series can be used for ANY of the series. An example: Azagoth (1001 Dark Nights, #6; Lords of Deliverance, #5.5; Demonica, #10.5) can be used for spot 6 for 1001 Dark Nights, spot 5 for LoD or spot 10 for Demonica because it meets the page limit.
✸There will be a separate thread for captains to post their place on the board after rolling and a separate thread for captains to post a link to the teams completed reviews.
NEW FEATURE:
Bonus Points
✸Teams will have a chance to earn 1 Free Pass to roll. To earn your free pass your team has to complete their reads a day before the next roll. Once your team has done this you will have 1 free pass. The free pass will allow a team to roll if they are missing a review(s) before the cutoff. Once you've used it, you can't earn another one. It's a one-time shot. NOTE: The free pass may not be used for the win.
✸ One point can be earned for reading three or more books in a series
✸ One point can be earned One point can be earned for reading a book that > 500 pages
✸ One point can be earned for starting and finishing a series (there must be more than 4 books in that series...I will entertain series with spin-offs) ~ no re-reads on this one.
✸ One point can be earned for never picking a book from the alternate lists
✸Re-reads are allowed
✸Page limit is 140
✸When using an anthology you may use any of the numbers in the book except for the .5 since this means ½. But you must review each story in the anthology.
✸Series # will be based on how GR has it listed.
✸Deadline cutoffs are based on US Central time zone
✸✸✸ Any questions please feel free to ask!

FOR THOSE PLAYING BOTH
★YES, you can use the same book in both challenges.
For example: Ezi is on SS Team 1 and SSS Team 3
Week 1: SS Team 1 rolled 12 (so they can read a book 1 or 2 in a series and
SSS Team 3 rolled 2 for their first roll
Ezi is allowed to read and claim Insurgent (Divergent #2) for her SS and her SSS team if she wants.
Of course, you could always challenge yourself to read different books as I did last round :D
EXAMPLE OF AN ACCEPTABLE POST
Week 2:
Spot: 12 (or Alternative~ Title "C")
Book: Crave The Night by Lara Adrian
Qualification: Midnight Breeds Book 12 OR Title "C"
Finished: 9/10
Rating & Review: ★★★½.
I am not sure if my expectations were too high, but I didn't enjoy this book like I thought I would. This one was just kind of flat.
First of all, I didn't "feel" the chemistry between Jordana and Nathan. It felt more like insta-lust, the kind you feel when a good girl meets that bad boy you know your dad would want you to stay away from. That feeling of wanting to be the one who tames that tiger. I liked Nathan and Jordana individually though. I kept waiting for the moment Elliott Bentley Squire (Jordana's boyfriend) would be revealed to be a fiend waiting to use her for evil...I am still waiting.
Also, I am baffled at where this series is going. Not knowing the true enemy and the enemies motivations didn't really get me excited. It's like now everyone is an Atlantean descendant. Are there any plan old breedmates left anymore? There are just more questions and not enough answers, so this one was just okay for me.

Yayyy, new round! :D
Could you elaborate on how the bonus points will work and how teams benefit from gaining them? Can each member of a team earn one of the four possible bonus points for their team or is it one per team of each?

I am still working them out and will be discussing with the mods on my ideas. I will discuss more in this next week.
But it was suggested that groups that got low rolls like 2, wanted a chance to catch up to groups that consistently rolled 5 or 6.
I am also considering if a mod will roll for groups as opposed to groups doing their own rolls. I just hate micromanaging people like that. But some people expressed concern that a group rolled 5 or 6 for most of the weeks

1. Ace in the Hole is labeled as book 1 at the standard area by the title but in the info area another series is noted
ebook, Dreamspun Desires #13, 216 pages
does this work?
2. I apologize in advance for this next question, because I think I ask it every time and I never remember the answer. Books that are greater than 9 in a series, like W is for Wasted, #23
Is this only good for spot 23? Or is it good for either 2, 3 or 23?

I will accept it as either Book 1 or 13 as they are both listed on Goodreads. Some books are part of multiple series especially spin offs. So either one would work as long as it's already listened on GR
*see the last example on how to pick a book.
2) NEVER apologize for asking. I would rather you ask and I am sure someone else can benefit from your question. It also helps me clarify.
*W is for wasted will count only for #23.
But B is for Burglar can work for #2 or #23.

✸Teams will roll by clicking the dice on Thursdays & Sundays once their team has completed their reads. Please note you will be using one die for each roll.
Does this mean when Wednesday 11:59pm Central time changes to Thursday 12am central time
and Saturday 11:59pm central time changes to Sunday 12am Central time?
The countdown in my team thread indicates we roll on June 2nd which is Friday.

I would have let you use Rebecca Zanetti since she's one of my favorite authors, lol.
Those other covers don't look brown. I think I will take out that category for next time.
Sorry for the late answer. I'll be back from Jamaica on sunday

Those other covers don't look brown. I think I will take out that category for next time."

after I said I'd accept it for the category. Will you let my ruling on it stand? Since it was for last Thursday's roll, it obviously can't be changed anymore and since it's my own team, I can't really make the final call on whether we should get a penalty or something.

I am back from Jamaica, so I will be spending this evening and tomorrow updating spreadsheets and the like. But I am available to answer questions more promptly.
Thank you for your patience!

I'm sorry you got no answer, it would have been close but I would have let you use it. I've heard that book is intense"
It definitely is, but still really good :) Would have been a re-read for me.

Our last book was completed 3 hours ago, can we roll or do we have to wait til Sunday? (Team 3)
Thanks!

At the current rate, it doesn't seem likely that the game will be concluded before I go on vacation on (August 18, returning Sept 11). Although I can probably commit to completing one book during that time, I think trying to complete 2 is likely to stress me out.
What are my options?
Thanks!

Doing some planning so for this alternate:
79. New Release (first Published within 6 months of this challenge)
Would May 15th count even though it's before the challenge started?

Yes. It definitely fits the criteria. I would also accept 6months from when you rolled the 79th spot.
Example: if you rolled that today, a book within 6 months of today

I'd like to officially request the vacation waiver starting week 12 Thursday (Aug 17). I can start up again on Week 15 Sunday (Sept 10) if the game is still running. I am on SSS Team 4.
Thank you for hosting this challenge. It continues to be one of my favorites.

I doubt the game will still be ongoing into Sept.
Have fun at vacation and I'm glad you always play with us. Your team is going to have to take the next week games without you

Yes it seems like 3 is part of the title. How interesting. Is the book good?

The first two were so I hope so. I love AE Via's books so I may be a bit biased. :)
Sooo... I have the following situation: I've been reading two different series I started during the challenge in hopes of gaining both of the possible bonus points for reading 3 or more books from a series and reading a series start to finish. A while ago I claimed the 3 or more books bonus point for one of those series, intending to use the other one for the start to finish category. Now it turns out, book 8 in the second series doesn't meet the page requirement and therefore doesn't qualify. We have not used any of our bonus points yet.
Is any of the following options possible?
- Retrospectively switch which series I claim the 3 or more books bonus point for and continue the first series for the start to finish bonus
- Retract my claim of the 3 or more books bonus point, claim it for a team mate who has also read books that qualify instead, and continue my first series for the start to finish bonus
- Read (and review) the too short book in the second series as a bonus in addition to what I'm reading for the challenge to qualify for the start to finish bonus on that series
...yeah, I'm just making this up as I go along. *lol* Would you accept any of those?

Hmmmmmm.
What series is it? I'd rather consider the series completed as you've read what you can. But I'd like to know the series.

Now that's an option that'll make me happy! :D
The series in question is THIRDS by Charlie Cochet. There are 9 books out at this time. I've read #1-7 so far, #8 doesn't meet the page requirements, #9 is a full length novel again that I'll be reading once my team hits the 90s.
