Hello Book Club Members!

My Name is Nicole and the book we’re discussing throughout the month of May is Precious Cargo: My Year Driving the Kids on School Bus 3077 by Craig Davidson.

Craig Davidson grew up in St. Catharines and now lives in Toronto. He tends to write novels and short stories. He writes under his own name but also writes horror novels under the pseudonym Nick Cutter.

Precious Cargo takes place in 2008, a time when Davidson was struggling financially and became a school bus driver for children with special needs in order to make ends meet. In this book we’ll get an inside look at the relationships between Davidson and the students as well as a broader examination of how we see and treat people with special needs in our society.

I’m looking forward to discussing this book and sharing our thoughts and reactions along the way.

The book is available from the Library in several different formats, all of which are accessible at the following link: goo.gl/TIoXCn

Thanks and happy reading!

~Nicole

Heidi Madden | 118 comments Hi Nicole, I have to admit I was super excited when it was announced that Precious Cargo was the book for May. I read Davidson’s “Cataract City” and the book still haunts me as I drive around the Niagara Region. I’m interested in what his take will be on this very different topic, and the fact that it’s more of a memoir. Thanks for leading this!

Hi Heidi,

Thanks for your comment. I've also read Cataract City and I agree that it was definitely a haunting book. It certainly gives a darker and sinister impression of the Niagara region.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Precious Cargo!
