Katie | 6 comments I'll be amazed if anyone can help, because rather than plot, pretty much all I can remember is the feeling reading it gave me. This is a young adult book I would have read in the mid to late 90s, possibly early 2000s. I'm not sure if it was new then or if it had been around for years already. I believe it was kind of suspenseful or mysterious and involved these people living at the base of a mountain. There may have been a cat. It left me with a down, off mood, but I loved it. Possibly, though I could be remembering wrong, the kid wasn't living with his/her biological family. Maybe something bad was happening in the village. There may have been a mountain or moon on the cover, maybe the cat. I think it was a dark cover. And that's about all I can remember! Any chance you can help?

Michele | 2488 comments Do you recall if it had any fantasy, science fiction or supernatural elements, or was it just straight fiction? That might help narrow it down a bit. The cat seems to have stuck in your mind, and if it was maybe on the cover then it was probably important; do you have any recollection of why?

Katie | 6 comments I believe it did have supernatural aspects, though at the end they were possibly resolved with reality. It was definitely a chapter book, but I think it was probably aimed at kids in mid to late grade school. It didn't have any romance aspects.

Katie | 6 comments Tina, that's not it but it goes look interesting! :) And nope, I can't really remember anything about the cat, except there was one. And it might have been black.

Katie | 6 comments Two more things. It may have had the word shadow in the title, and it may have had one of those literary award labels on it.

Michele | 2488 comments Wikipedia has a list of Newbery award winners and National Book Award winners. Those are the most common award sticker you see on kids' books. Maybe one of the titles will ring a bell, e.g. The Moorchild.

Katie | 6 comments Tab, I believe Kneeknock Rise is it! It doesn't resonate 100%, but I think that's got to be the one. Thank you!

Katie--do you want to wait until you've found a copy to read, or are you sure enough that you want this moved down to Solved?

message 13: by Katie (new)

Katie | 6 comments We can call it solved - I couldn't figure out how to do it from the app though.
