Sandra | 22 comments Hi, I couldn't find anything on the webpage so I thought I ask here. I noticed when I borrow a book which I placed on hold that sometimes I have 2 weeks to read it instead of 3. I was wondering what the guidelines are and when it is a shorter time? I just think it would be a easier to know this beforehand because then I could guess how long the wait is for a book plus plan my own reading much better...

And a second question if I have a book on hold which is available for pick up but I might not be able to read it, can I just delete my request? I'm just in a situation right now where a book became available much sooner so two books overlap each other now and if the other book will be just two weeks as well, I don't think I'm going to make it. But in general I have always been wondering when I pick up a book if it is going to be 2 or 3 weeks...

Thanks,
Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Thank you for posting your questions!

First of all, it is super easy to cancel your holds. Log into your account, click on the box next to the title you'd like to cancel, then click on the blue bar above the titles with the phrase "Cancel Hold(s)". You may even opt to suspend your hold temporarily for a certain time frame without losing your place on the holds list.

Secondly, when you check out a title and there are 4 or more people on the waiting list for that same title, then you only get a two week loan period instead of the usual three weeks. This usually happens with new books and bestsellers.

I hope I helped answer your questions. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Caroline

Sandra | 22 comments Just one more question popped into my head. I was reading on the website and did I understand it correctly that I can return my materials at any branch and not just the one I borrowed it from?

Sandra, that is absolutely correct! You can return your materials at any of the four Alexandria Libraries: Beatley, Burke, Barrett or Duncan.
