Lieke | 1723 comments Thank you Angela and Jonetta. I'm looking forward to reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane I have heard good things about it and I have enjoyed all the Gaiman books I have read until now. Happy reading!

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 1631 comments Have fun reading, Lieke. I was just watching a special on Neil Gaiman on the Starz channel yesterday (following him on his final book tour) and he mentioned that The Ocean at the End of the Lane started out as a short story that he was writing as a present for his wife. Then it grew and grew.

message 8: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 1723 comments Thanks Veronica!
All these comments about The Ocean at the End of the Lane make me want to read the book even more :)
But I'm going to read some series books first.

Lieke | 1723 comments Thanks Mary Beth and Amie!

Finished reading Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris. I liked the book but it gets a bit much with all the guys/characters who like Sookie.

Yeah, she's like Catnip to supernatural men.

So many books so little time :)

Lieke | 1723 comments I finished the Lorien Legacies: The lost Files series by reading Zero Hour by Pittacus Lore. These where the last three novella's in this series.
I enjoyed reading the bit of extra information about these characters.

Lieke | 1723 comments I read The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. I liked the book, but didn't completely click with it (does that make sense?). I liked reading the interview with Neil Gaiman in the back a lot, finding out that he used a lot of things from his own childhood.

message 18: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 1723 comments Finished reading Ashling by Isobelle Carmody, the 3rd book in the Obernewtyn Chronicles. Another good book in the series, really looking forward to read the next book in June :)

Lieke what did you end up rating the book? It does make sense that people don't click with a book. I've read books friends have raved about and they haven't clicked for me in the same way.

Lieke | 1723 comments I gave it three stars, I did like it but didn't love it. I think I just expected more from the story.
Did you read the book?

message 21: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 1723 comments Finished two books today Beneath the Earth by John Boyne and Windzangers by Megan Lindholm.
The first book are short stories, I liked it but I think his books for young readers are better.
I loved the other book, it is the second book in the series and I liked it more then the first book.

Not yet. It's one of those books that's been sitting on my TBR for a couple of years so I was curious to see what you thought. I really loved American Gods and Neverwhere, but his work can be quite different between books, as I wasn't a big fan of Stardust. I liked it, but didn't love it like others of Gaiman's I've read.

Lieke | 1723 comments I finished reading Winter by Marissa Meyer. I really liked this series a lot. I was thinking of a different ending (view spoiler). Now I just have to read Stars Above to finish the series.

message 24: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 1723 comments A unplanned book I read Vattenhästen (The Waterhorse) by Dick King-Smith. It was an ok children's book, but a bit too short some points could have been a bit longer. And I didn't like the drawings in the book.

message 25: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 1723 comments I read another book I bought this year Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Not sure what to think of this book, it was not too hard to read being from 1818. I liked reading 'The nightmare of romantic idealism' by Paul Cantor in the back since it gave me some knowledge about the time the book was written and about how people thought back then.

message 26: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 1723 comments The last book of the month is The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey. I'm not a big fan of zombies, but I liked this book. Melanie was een interesting character and the relationele between the characters were well done too.
