I've read several good books this year, but I think the one that packed the biggest punch was The Sparrow (The Sparrow, #1) by Mary Doria Russell The Sparrow. I'm still trying to mull it over to write a worthy review. Basically, we hear a musical radio broadcast from another planet and go for a visit. The encounter with the beings on the other planet at first seems to be working out well, but it eventually leaves the lone survivor of the trip in the depths of despair after experiencing the worst parts of the true nature of the culture he encounters. The book is a deep and searching sort that deals with the harder questions of life and existence.

Only one? What am I? An animal? A non reading animal?

I have five to choose among, three fiction, two non-fiction. I think for pure enjoyment I'm going to go with Joyland by Stephen King. (I have no idea how to do pictures or gifs or anything. I swear you would think I was 93 and using the Interwebs for the first time). It was just.....fun, in a typical Stephen King way.

You know it's killing me to have to choose, BTW.

And The Sparrow is one of my all-time favorite books and I'm sure it was the best book I read whatever year I read it.

Ha. It was a tough choice for the best for the year so far. Definitely some nice contenders.

I need to read more Stephen King.

Zeke | 10 comments Hands down, the best book I've read this year is called The Sculptor. It's a graphic novel, but the story is so incredible and the art is stunning. It really affected me on a very deep level.

For a 'traditional' book, I enjoyed Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years Of Pilgrimage. Huge fan of Murakami and this is one of his best books. Not as 'dreamy' as some of his other books, but the prose and descriptions are mind-blowing.

Zeke | 10 comments And I wish I could link both books, but my mobile app isn't allowing me to. Sorry folks.

Sarah | 2 comments There's so many books I adore but the one I've read this year that really stuck with me is The Green Mile by Stephen King.
I've seen the film many times and thought it was about time I finally got round to reading the novel and it is honestly one of the best books I've ever read, just as heartbreaking as the film but a brilliant read, I couldn't wait to finish it but at the same time I wasn't quite ready for it to end.

Oh, I haven't visited this thread in a year. I have a hard time choosing just one best I've read so far this year. I really enjoyed Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne The Mysterious Island. It was my first Verne book, and I loved it. It apparently has tie-ins to 2 of his other books.

As for more current novels, my favorite has been Apocalypticon by Clayton Smith Apocalypticon which is a fun and adventurous post-apocalyptic journey of 2 guys on a quest to Disneyworld. It should be far better known than it is.

Annet (abpg) | 12 comments I have Apocalypticon in house and I so look forward to reading that one! I think I was triggered by your post about it. I always have an eye out for good post-apocalyptic books...

I so want to read Apocalypticon, but I live in a book desert and things can be hard to find.

Jess (jessdarb) | 7 comments "The Sparrow" is one of my favorites. Left me reeling for days.

So far the best book I've read in 2015 is "Station Eleven."
