Diane | 1234 comments Congratulations Laurel on finishing the challenge!

I am impressed that you guys are doing so well at a challenge that is only 2 months long. A little over 1 month left to finish this challenge. I know you guys can do it!

Thanks Diane! After my extreme suckage for the last three challenges I needed to actually finish one!

Amy | 237 comments Update post #3

Finished Lockdown (Escape from Furnace, #1) by Alexander Gordon Smith - Horror. Not a bad book but wasn't for me so I think I'll stop there with that series.

message 55: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments Yeah Amy that is a very dark series. I can only take it a little at a time, but I do like it.

message 56: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela I've read two so far:

Yes I agree, it was a great book! I would have to say that I'm the opposite though. I enjoyed Salt to the sea better but only by a little bit. My favourite is still Out of the easy, have you read that one yet? Rita Sepetys needs to write more!!!

message 60: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments First, congratulations for finishing the challenge in 1 month :)

I have not read Out of the Easy but it is on my list. Yes, she is a great story teller and I would love to see more from her.

Amy | 237 comments Thanks Diane! I enjoyed the challenge.

message 63: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I still have not heard from a few of you readers. I know this is a short challenge but don't let that hold you back. Get a few books in there and you will still be successful even if the 6 book challenge is not met. I know you can do it. Reading something is better than not reading at all :)

I've been reading a lot of adult lately. However I'm working on book 2 for this! It's Splendor (Luxe, #4) by Anna Godbersen , hope to be done soon.

message 65: by Kelly (last edited May 30, 2017 01:53AM) (new)

Kelly (kellyleanna) I've been working through a lot of library holds this month, which have mostly been the same genre or adult. But I have managed to finish 3 so far.
Starfall (Starflight, #2) by Melissa Landers - science fiction
Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist, #1) by Renee Ahdieh - fantasy
The Pearl Thief (Code Name Verity #0) by Elizabeth Wein - historical fiction

message 66: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished #3 - Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston for contemporary

Updated post #10

I've got a bunch of library books i'm trying to get through, but I think some of them will count.

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) I think I'm going to go for round 2. This round will include the main genres, but big subgenres like steampunk, dystopian, etc., can be considered. I'm thinking graphic novels too, provided that they are over 150 pages.

Thoughts, Diane?

message 68: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I think that sounds great. The whole idea is to get you reading a variety of things especially some things you may not usually read.

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Awesome! I think i'm going to shoot for different kinds of books than Round 1 to make it a little more interesting (although there might be some double-tapping)

Round 2 3/6
Wires and Nerve, Volume 1 (Wires and Nerves, #1) by Marissa Meyer (graphic novel) The House of the Scorpion (Matteo Alacran, #1) by Nancy Farmer (dystopian) Only You (Bachelor Brotherhood #1) by Denise Grover Swank (romance, adult)

Diane | 1234 comments Wow Laurel you are a reading maniac! Maybe you can get a round 3 complete before the next challenge :)

message 71: by Casey (new)

Casey Anderson | 637 comments Finished my 2nd, historical fiction
Splendor (Luxe, #4) by Anna Godbersen

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Diane wrote: "Wow Laurel you are a reading maniac! Maybe you can get a round 3 complete before the next challenge :)"

Lol there is NO WAY I could do a round 3!

I'm actually really behind on my reading goal for this year (gulp). Lucky for me, I tend to read a decently wide variety of things anyways so this challenge was perfect.

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Finished book 4 of round 2:

Freefall by Anna Levine (contemporary, war)

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Finished book #5 of round 2.

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1) by Julie Kagawa (Urban Fantasy—Vampire)

I think that the Twilight Effect has jumped vampires into their own subgenre.

Diane | 1234 comments OK, I think I have everything updated. It is nice to have my laptop back :) Check out post #2 to see if I missed anything. It looks like most people are doing pretty well for this second challenge, we still have a couple of weeks to finish. Congratulations to the ones who have finished already. I still have not heard from Gremlin for challenge #3 but is have something in the works, that we can start on July 1, in case she is still MIA. Keep reading!

message 84: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished #5, edited post #10

Fiorela (filemot) | 30 comments Finished !

Romance What a Boy Wants (What a Boy Wants, #1) by Nyrae Dawn

Updated post #82.

message 87: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments You are off to a quick start! 2 weeks to go :)

message 88: by R.A. (new)

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments I haven't been updating! AHH!

Horror/Thriller: The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich (finished 6/15)
Science Fiction: The Last Star (The 5th Wave, #3) by Rick Yancey (finished 5/15)

Also -- what is Places No One Knows by Brenna Yovanoff considered? It's kind of magical realism, and I wouldn't call it outright paranormal romance, as it reads more like a contemporary. I want to count it for something, but maybe it just doesn't fit?

message 89: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments I have not read that book but I think I would classify it contemporary. If there is fantasy elements maybe Urban fantasy? If it is a genre is not encompassed in the other books you have read, by all means count it. The idea is to read a wide variety of different YA books and it looks like these three are all different.

message 90: by Amber (last edited Jun 20, 2017 11:44AM) (new)

Amber (amberm867) Finished# 5 for Urban Fantasy: City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

I never would have read this without this challenge - urban fantasy just doesn't interest me much - but it was pretty good. Undecided about whether I'll continue, but I might...

Gonna try to finish the challenge, but gonna be busy these last 10 days of June, so we'll see.

message 91: by R.A. (new)

R.A. Desilets | 375 comments I'll count it as Contemporary. There is one magical and unexplained element, but the bigger focus is on the character's coming of age. :)

message 92: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments Sounds about right to me :)

message 93: by Gabriela (new)

Gabriela I've just finished! My #5 is Rival (Fall Away, #2) by Penelope Douglas for Romance and #6 is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (Adult) for Sci-fi.

Updated post #8

Fiorela (filemot) | 30 comments Finished: Historical fiction
Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

Updated post # 82

message 95: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1234 comments We have only one more week left for this shortened challenge. There are several participants that have finished - Congratulations! Laurel - almost 2 rounds finished WAY TO GO! There are several more that are very close - keep reading! For those of you that have read fewer books than the challenge don't feel discouraged, if you were able to read a couple of different genre's ( especially if they are not what you usually read) you are still successful in that. Look at it this way, it was only 2 months so 4 really would be equal to the 3 month challenge.

I would like to invite each of you to share your favorite book from this challenge and tell us what you liked about that book. One of the things I love about this group is getting new inspiration and exposure to different books, from other members.

I will have the next challenge up and running for July 1st so get ready to take on a whole new challenge :) After that we should be hearing from Gremlin again, it will be nice to have her back.

message 96: by Kdbrand (new)

Kdbrand | 353 comments I finished the challenge with a few days to spare!

Thanks Diane! This has been a fun challenge.

laurel [the suspected bibliophile] (laurelthereader) Okay, I'm calling it, mostly because Drums of Autumn has taken over my life, soul and extra time.

Book 6/6 for round 2 Air and Ash (TIDES, #1) by Alex Lidell is done. I'm going with fantasy princesses as the unique subgenre for this one (totally a thing‚ right?)
