Paula White | 800 comments Loved book 1!! Heading in to book 2 - I think he can be redeemed but it would take hell of a lot to redeem him (but he did have nice moments in book 1)..have a beta to read by end of Friday - luckily it is a novella.
Is it wrong for me to think Noooooo! at the afterward as he has to be in love with Claire??

lol... and what's your rating??? and yep... I hate the battery dwindling factor!

message 54: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments Have given it 4* but think maybe 4.5* due to the whiplash of Tony! I will ponder and then maybe adjust my rating

Hmm. Not cheap, is it? I got my copy from my local library, actually. But I've considered buying it one day for a reread, and just so it's miiinnnneeee.

I've noticed that my Kindle battery has been running down SO fast lately. And I hardly have anything on my kindle--less that half of the memory is being used, and it even happens when I have the wifi turned off. It seems like ever since the last update they did, it's really been eating up the battery.

message 63: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments I can't complain as it was literally glued to my hand all the long weekend! All charged now and ready for the commute 😀

message 64: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments Jean, that is great that you are continuing Consequences series!! I totally get that not everyone will love Tony's brand of crazy...but hope most will at least enjoy the epic-ness of the story. I love Claire and felt every emotion right along with her.

Fingers crossed Paula gets into it too.

Don't know if you already knew this or thought of it, but the brightness of your screen has a lot to do with how quickly the battery goes. I turned my brightness down and I get days and days and days of use now without having to recharge.

Good tip. Thank you.

message 67: by Nay (last edited May 03, 2017 05:56AM) (new)

Nay (4ukcats) OMG--days? Mine will run down in about 6 hours. And I have my brightness set just a tad above the halfway point.

It was at 100% at 5:30 this morning, and I've ONLY been reading on it, although I did have my wifi turned on, and after just under 2-1/2 hours, it's down to 72%. I've now turned my wifi off and lowered my brightness a bit more, and I'm going to see where it's at in another 2-1/2 hours.

ETA: Also, I have one of the newer(ish) Kindle fires. It was released in the first part of 2015. (I'm not sure how many newer ones have been released since then)

message 68: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments Kindle Fires take up way more battery than the reader only Kindles. That will make a difference too.

My Kindle last days without needing a charge. My tablet, I'm lucky to get through 8 hours with it. I have to read with it plugged in when I'm home. That's with it at the lowest brightness setting.

Grey | 2385 comments Mod
I have a Samsung Galaxy III tablet or something... that I use as my kindle. I keep the brightness at its lowest. I also use the kindle setting to have the background black and the words white... I actually can go days and days without charging....

message 70: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments I have the Samsung Note too with Kindle app and no issues. I've never tried black background with words in white although that's the only way my friend reads. Do you find its easier on your eyes?

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments Ha....my husband is soooo dead to the world when he sleeps that I could have someone else there reading to me and he wouldn't notice...hey, now there is an idea...hmmmm!!!

message 75: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments The ONLY way i can eread is with black background/white text.

Its major difference for me in eye strain.

message 76: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments I honestly get more eye strain with black background/white text. I like the simple paper look, sepia, or even light pink. Not white. That's the worst to my eyes.

Leslie | 2430 comments I'm starting my pick. 53 Letters for My Lover (53 Letters for My Lover, #1) by Leylah Attar

I hope this one isn't too emotional. I dont want to get my heart ripped out.

my boys are home sick today, but I have to take them to the Dr... and I have a Drs appointment to get my stitches out today too, so probably not a lot of down time.

So sorry to hear that! How is your back? Hope you all feel better!

message 82: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments DNF - MY FIRST TIME EVER *GASP* Robin was right Hausfrau is not for me, I probably shouldn't have even added it to my TBR. That ending and issues through out are my HARD LIMITS!

message 83: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments *hugs* Some books are like that. Though, why don't you all DNF if a book just isn't good enough or hits limits?

message 84: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments That's a good question....For me it feels like a failure not finishing a book, which makes no sense because I'm suppose to enjoy what I'm reading!

message 85: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments Exactly! My mom always told me read to page 100. If by that point you still don't like the book, go to the next one. I think page 100 is supposed to represent 25 percent?

message 86: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Tessa--I've heard that too! I think that's a great practice to go by.

Ela--I used to feel the same way and would never DNF a book, but what got to me was the horrendous writing and/or lack or editing/proofreading in some of the Indie books and I just couldn't go on without allowing myself to just say NO to some of them!

message 87: by Lisa (last edited May 10, 2017 01:59PM) (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments I feel the same way as Ela about DNFing. I feel like a failure...and I feel like if I've put in time to it already, I might as well finish what I started. Apparently all those lessons my parents tried to teach me about "if you start something, finish it" took hold, but not until this late in life!!! I am getting better about it though. No need to torture myself if I'm really really hating it! I'm still pretty damn proud of myself that I finished Thoughtless, and I truly wanted to DNF it, but ended up giving it 4 stars. Weird!! If I hadn't stuck with it and tried it again, I wouldn't have experienced that.

message 88: by Grey (new)

Grey | 2385 comments Mod
I'm the same way... I very rarely DNF a book...

message 89: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments I actually went back and skimmed the book BECAUSE I FELT BAD RATING IT and am now depressed!

It's so very very good that it may end up being my favorite of the month. Thanks for pick!!!

:) You're welcome. I'm glad you are enjoying your stay in the courtyard. I'm trying to finish all my library books so I can get back to my challenge books.

message 94: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 2430 comments I think I need to DNF 53 Letters for My Lover (53 Letters for My Lover, #1) by Leylah Attar 😔

I just can't get into it. There's something about the writing that is throwing me. I cant grasp it. I reread first chapter like 4 times. Too many names and things to keep track of.

message 95: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments Then DNF it. It's now off your TBR at least.

message 96: by Grey (new)

Grey | 2385 comments Mod
yep. just do it Leslie, if you aren't feeling it... you aren't feeling it.

message 97: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments It's okay Leslie! Sorry it didn't work for you! I'm so behind on all your comments and my challenges. I miss you guys! Real life has been a bitch the last couple months. I lost my brother to a rare type of leukemia last week so my head's a little f'd up right now.

Hoping to get to my "try again" book this weekend or my "May pick". I DID LOVE THE QUEEN AND THE CURE!

message 100: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments Thank you Robin....I'll take that hug! The hardest thing is seeing my 82 year old mother go through this after she's been his caretaker for years. But she is a strong German woman with 6 sisters and 1 brother still living and they are a great support team!
