I've been blogging for a couple of years - I'm just not consistent enough. I don't think it hurts anything to get as many followers as you can.

I've been blogging for a year already and I think, you're lucky enough if they would follow you and also communicate with you. I've been trying to be friendly with them and sometimes, I comment on their post so they would know that I'm still there and that I don't just do that follow and follow back thing just to gained followers. I'm doing it so I could have a lot of friends (esp. fellow bloggers). :)
Having more friends/followers makes you look more popular, which might lead to an increase in popularity. It's a chicken and egg thing. It's a bit dishonest if you're not at least casually interested in what someone else is doing, but I can sort of see the merit in it, from a cynical standpoint.Promise to follow if you follow back! (And we share a taste in books!)
;)
This is a great topic you all are having. I have been blogging for 6 years now. I think it is important to blog constantly so your readers will keep coming back. I also think it Is important to build a relationship with other bloggers. Also you should have a Facebook page for your blog . You should always share your blog posts on social media. Also you should add a page view counter on your blog that way you know how many people are viewing your blog on a daily basis.
