Robert James | 12 comments I am trying to get the current edition to show on my author page, rather than the out of print one. There doesn't seem to be any way to change the editions, because when I try to add a book, it says the book already exists, and I can't claim it for my own.

This is true of the first two volumes of my series, WHO Won?!? An Irreverent Look at the Oscars.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments You have to do that yourself (librarians literally can't set the default) if the edition already exists on GR (I don't know if that's the case, couldn't read that out of your post)
Author FAQ message 4 explains how

message 3: by Robert (new)

Robert James | 12 comments They do exist, but it won't let me add them as my books!

message 4: by Robert (new)

Robert James | 12 comments And since they aren't listed as my books, I can't change the default edition as the link suggests.

message 5: by Robert (new)

Robert James | 12 comments I can change the default edition as a READER, but that doesn't change it on my AUTHOR page. I'm sorry if I'm being difficult; I'm just confused.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments but they ARE listed as your books...
so the explanation in the link should work.
If not you have to contact support as they are the only ones who can do something on GR Author profiles except the author

message 7: by Robert (new)

Robert James | 12 comments Ok, will do. I appreciate the help. It seems the only in-system
way to correct this is to have reviewers choose the new edition as the default edition.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments here are the editions of your vol 2 books https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

the vol 1 books https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

Is the actual edition listed there?
If not then it must be added - as another alternate edition (and yes, without isbn) if yes you can change.

But you didn't tell if you really need a new edition added or not.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments No, it's not! the only way that reviewers must chose the correct version - the other way is that YOU chose the default in your author profile as mentioned in the FAQ - it's really easy.
(I cannot provide you another explanation how to do it because I don't know how your author page looks like)

message 10: by Robert (new)

Robert James | 12 comments Ok. I will try to explain what I am seeing. When I do a search for my name and books, what I see is this:

https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...

My new editions and covers aren't the ones that are showing.

When I go to my author dashboard/author page, what I see are the old covers. and links only to those old editions. I have a command I can click to "switch to this edition" -- but since the author page ONLY shows those old editions, I CANNOT switch to the new ones.

If I click on one of the new editions, both of which exist (in multiple copies on one of them), then when I click on the option to switch to that edition, it only switches it as a reviewer. NOTHING changes on my author page, and the new editions simply aren't there.

I'm starting to wonder if the "six-space" issue is the problem here, and my newer editions are attached to them instead of me.

I am sorry this is so complicated. And I am sorry if I'm not explaining or understanding clearly.

I do appreciate the help.

Arenda | 26456 comments You should go to the book page of the new edition (you can go there via the link to all editions, like was provided in a previous message: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...)
Choose "edit details" on the book page. At the right of the edit page, somewhere below the cover, should be the option to set that edition as default.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments You are the 6 space profile :) (goodreads uses spaces to seperate between authors with the same name - they do not influence searches or something like that but they are relevant when adding new books to the system)

ah okay, I got your mistake but Arenda had it already explained (my internet died).

Just in case you overlooked it the "edit" link on the book page is grey a bit on the right (a bit under) of the thumnails of the different editions
(the link to the "all editions" page is directly under the thumnails of the different editions)

I appologize if my english was too bad and you couldn't understand me correct :/.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments I made a screenshot :D

The "edit book" link we're talking about is the red circled one :)
the link to "all editions" the blue circled one.

You can either:
a) click "all editions" - look through all your editions and clicking the little "edit" under the details (dark green) then you're on the "edit book" page and can choose the "setting as default" there (somewhere under the cover as arenda says)

or
the other way
b) click on your book - see it in your browser window (with all it's details) - click on the thumbnail of the edition you want to have - then you see that edition in your browser window, click on the "edit details" link (red circled) - you're on the edit page and can look for the "setting the default"

Important: As far as I know (not 100% sure) the version on your author dashboard doesn't change, so don't be irritated.

message 15: by Robert (new)

Robert James | 12 comments Thank you all so much!!

Yes, that did it. I had to click on the correct book, then click on "edit details" -- and choose the correct edition.

I'm so sorry it took me so long to understand. I'm not usually this dense :)

I appreciate the patience and help!

Robert

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments Yeah! Glad you got it!
