What I remember is that there was this killer who targeted a prostitute and picked her up, once they were in his car he told her to 'buckle up'. Back at his place he somehow kidnaps her a ties her to a table in this secure basement. I remember that he stripped her down so that she was naked so that he could beat her or something and at one point she actually bites his thumb off? Also going on in this story is this guy who I think is an average Joe with a wife and a kid. He somehow gets involved and by the end of the book the killer tells him where the girl is, and the average Joe has to go save her and for a reason I can't remember her does. Except once he gets there he realises that the house is under surveillance by the killer, the killer telling him to kill the prostitute other wise there'd be a consequence, so the average Joe slices her jugular with the knife provided.

I read the book probably around 2009 but I imagine it was published earlier as it's one of those crime novels you're most likely to buy at an airport.
