Book set in Robin Hood's time; some men working the lord's field and the guard was insulting the workers

Hello everyone! When I was a kid I was obsessed with Robin Hood and I read this book that I don't remember a lot about, definitely not the author or the title. I read this book when I was a teen, so about 15 years ago, if not more. The book wasn't about Robin Hood per se, but rather a man who enters his band of merry men. I remember two scenes really well. The first one happens at the beginning of the book, and it's with some men working the lord's field and the guard was insulting the workers. And then there's the scene that happens when the main characters arrives at Sherwood and sees Robin Hood talking with his friends around a fire or something similar. I know it's not much to go on, but I'd really love to find this book and reread it. I remember I loved it, so I'd love to read it again.

I think this is a bit too new to be in your timeframe, as it's published in 2007, but I'll throw it out there: Scarlet. It's the second in the series and follows Will Scarlet.

The book is really old, from what I remember, probably from the 80s or even the 70s.

Rubysbooks, can you tell us more about the main character who joined Robin Hood - how he met Robin Hood, rich/poor, job/skills/talents, age, appearance, personality, etc.?

From what I remember he was poor, or he lost his job. Either way, he was forced to become an outlaw. I think he was a farmer, and he tried to stand up to the lord he was working for, or even the Sheriff, and he was forced to become an outlaw. Also, I remember he met Robin Hood when he got to the forest of Sherwood, before that he'd just previously heard about him. Other than that, I don't really remember much.
