The chapter with the temple event and the "exposure" of Chellam was one of the meanest things I ever read. I don't think that Chellam has had it easy in her life and the way the family uses her, especially Amma is dreadful. I know she is horrid to Paati, too, but I still feel sorry for her.

That was a disgrace. Amma telling her she could go to temple and then all that transpired - what a setup and what a brutal bullying of her.

It was as if everyone was mean to everyone! Aasha was the only bright light that carried through and no one saw her, saw the light.

Oh poor Chellam. the temple incident so cruel and upsetting. It is very obvious throughout all the book that this community is very class conscious and are scathing and show appalling manners to others not as fortunate as them. I liked Uncle Ballroom. He shows real kindness.
I found the section where Amma is discussing his supposed sexual encounters really funny. His new dance "wham bang thank you mam waltz"
I am really enjoying this book.

I know Chellam has it very bad but I think she prefers the big house over staying with her father. Heart breaking. It would really grate my patience taking care of Paati...
