Okay, no surgery yet, so I'm good to go for a couple more weeks! And I can start planning some of my books out...
Teresa in Ohio wrote: "thanks for explaining how this works : ) it starts may 4?"You're very welcome! Yep, the challenge starts May 4th, at 4 PM (WEST Time) and goes for 12 weeks, ending on July 29th. :)
We're waiting for one more person to check in and then I believe our team would be complete!
Amanda wrote: "Okay, no surgery yet, so I'm good to go for a couple more weeks! And I can start planning some of my books out..."Thank you for keeping us updated, Amanda! And good luck with the treatment when it happens! :)
Vikki wrote: The book of hers that I enjoyed most was The Confession of Katherine Howard..."I'll have to read that one. I haven't even heard of it.
Has anyone signed up to do the daily questions for the BOM?The only book I have of the three is A Gentleman in Moscow. I would do the daily question thing but I have never participated in a BOM thread. Do I need to sign up?
Christine wrote: "Has anyone signed up to do the daily questions for the BOM?The only book I have of the three is A Gentleman in Moscow. I would do the daily question thing but I have never partici..."
Not yet, I'll probably read and discuss The Circle, too late for DQs for that one. Not sure about the other two yet.
To volunteer for DQs just leave a message on the BOMs discussion thread at least few days before reading starts. Here is one for A Gentleman in Moscow.
Also this about DQs (copied):
NOTE: We will accept one team member per book per team for writing a days DQs. If, by three days prior to the BOM starting, we don't have enough volunteers to write all DQs, then we will let more than one team member per team write questions. If we have more people than days sign up (prior to 3 days before start date) we will randomise the volunteers to determine those who can write
Here is my shelf
As for a BOM, I can probably do Strange the Dreamer and discuss it, but I can't guarantee anything. If I do I'll definitely participate in the discussion :)
My only problems with BOMs is that I tend to read a book ALL AT ONCE so I finish it in 1-2 days. I'm pretty sure that's not how it usually works for these kinds of things lol...
@Anna - I believe that despite being pretty structured, BOM discussions do allow for some flexibility lol. What I mean is you can only answer the questions you want or none at all and just talk about your own impressions of the book. Check out this message, there's more details under the spoiler and it looks pretty adaptable to one's pace and reading manner :) @Teresa - Sorry, but no, they won't count. The only exception has been made for The Circle, it's a book of the month and reading and discussing is starting today.
Well I went ahead and put my name down for A Gentleman in Moscow in the BOM thread. I didn't see anyone else, but please feel free to volunteer too!
So have you guys decided which book you're kicking off Tower Teams with? I'm starting The Circle today but want to have a book ready for May 4th, don't know which one yet though. How about everyone else?
I've a few in mind. I think I should finish my current book by then. It'll just be a case of deciding which one I want to start next. Decisions decisions.... it can be hard.
I have already read the Circle, earlier this year or late last year. It was good. Can I still participate in the discussion? I have been dying to have someone else read it so we can talk about it, so I would like to participate. It's a long waitlist for me on the other two BOM books. But I am looking for some long books to read :)
I have a long book Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke who wrote the Inkheart series. It feels like cheating because it's a light read - a child's book, but I don't even care. In hardback, it's over 800 pages, so it's not like a walk in the park. And I've been looking forward to it. ;)
Ohh, Christine, that sounds good. :)Not sure what I'm going to read first. I guess it partly depends on how it lines up with another challenge I'm doing.
I think I'm leaning towards After by Anna Todd, though. Been meaning to read it for awhile now, and it's got a decent amount of pages. :)
Lory wrote: "I have already read the Circle, earlier this year or late last year. It was good. Can I still participate in the discussion? I have been dying to have someone else read it so we can talk about it, ..."My guess is anyone who wants to talk about the book is welcome to participate in the discussion. Getting points for it is a little trickier though because it looks like in order to get participation and/or DQs points the book has to be read during the month the group is reading it. Did that make sense? lol That's what I found in the Q&A thread:
◈ Q: One of the upcoming BOMs is a book I recently read a couple months ago. I realize that I can't get points for this book since I read it prior to the challenge start date, but if I participate in the discussion can I get points for participating in a BOM?
A: To try and keep things simple, I was intending to only have points count for BOMs once the book is marked as "read" by the member. This would mean the answer to your question is 'no'
By the way there's a few more Qs and As regarding BOMs as well as other stuff here.
So if you're okay with no points, Lory (I assume you're not ready for a reread yet :)), and want to talk about the book then by all means join! :) There's a bunch of people reading it right now and this book seems to touch on some controversial themes, I'm hoping for some interesting discussions!
Ashley/Elena:Do you need us to also add our finished books to this thread?? As well as the page count ?
Another question, do we have anyone signed up for daily questions for The Circle, so we can get those points? Apparently the teams that have a chance at being competitive are the ones that do the BOM questions.
question. I know books only count if we start on may 4. I am only a couple chapters into
if i stop and restart may 4 can i count. it has 459 pages
Christine wrote: "Ashley/Elena:Do you need us to also add our finished books to this thread?? As well as the page count ?"
We just got a separate thread for our finished books so that's where they'll go! On the phone right now and can't link, will do that as soon as I can. We'll probably add a template of a complete book post later to that thread as well, but yes page count would be nice :)
Teresa in Ohio wrote: "question. I know books only count if we start on may 4. I am only a couple chapters into

Christine wrote: "Another question, do we have anyone signed up for daily questions for The Circle, so we can get those points? Apparently the teams that have a chance at being competitive are the on..."Not for The Circle, we don't. The reading already started and question volunteers have been drawn days ago. We have one person so far participating so we'll have that! :)
What about Strange the Dreamer? Is anyone interested in doing questions for it?
Teresa in Ohio wrote: "question. I know books only count if we start on may 4. I am only a couple chapters into
if i stop and restart may 4 can i count. it has 459 pages"Teresa, we'll have to verify with the mods if that's ok and will let you know as soon as there's an answer. Fingers crossed!
Elena wrote: "Teresa in Ohio wrote: "question. I know books only count if we start on may 4. I am only a couple chapters into

Teresa in Ohio wrote: "question. I know books only count if we start on may 4. I am only a couple chapters into
if i stop and restart may 4 can i count. it has 459 pages"Got an answer - okay to restart from the beginning to count for the challenge. And please remember to reset the start date! Thanks and sorry if there was any confusion, I'm known to be overly causious :)
Elena wrote: "okay to restart from the beginning to count for the challenge"O good! I pausedBag of Bones by Stephen King about a chapter in, hoping I could count it. It's 732 pages, and I'm reading it with my husband!
Elena wrote: "Sorry, Ashley, I didn't see your answer before i posted mine :)"No worries! I just answered since it's a scenario I've come across before.
Christine wrote: "Elena wrote: "okay to restart from the beginning to count for the challenge"O good! I pausedBag of Bones by Stephen King about a chapter in, hoping I could count it. It..."
Oh, Christine, I just got Bag of Bones from a book sale at the library a couple of weeks ago. Might be reading that one, too. :)
Elena wrote: "Teresa in Ohio wrote: "question. I know books only count if we start on may 4. I am only a couple chapters into

Amanda wrote: "Might be reading that one, too. :) "That's too funny. We may have similar reading tastes!
I'm sorry, but I have another question. How will we claim points for the BOM discussion and questions?
In the last tower teams challenge, it was inputted into the spreadsheet. You would enter that a BOM was being participated in, and then select yes/no for discussion and questions, and points were calculated accordingly.
We always go by what the page count says on the Goodreads page, so you can put that when you're submitting.Elena wrote: "Just picked up a copy of
, I think I know what I'll be sinking my teeth into come tomorrow!"I devoured this book in 2 days last summer!
The Illuminae book looks amazing! I love books whose story is told through letters, etc. (just found out called epistolary novels). I am going to add that to my list as well :)
I didn't get to post this since I was in class, but we've officially begun this challenge approximately an hour ago. Please remember to post all completed books on this thread using the format provided: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...Happy reading, everyone!
I'm afraid not, Twist, I'm sorry. I guess since we are from all over the world, midnight is at different time for everyone, hence a uniform starting time. I hope you enjoyed the book though!
Ashley wrote: "I didn't get to post this since I was in class, but we've officially begun this challenge approximately an hour ago. Please remember to post all completed books on this thread using the format prov..."Woohoo!
different times really messes things up :( I work third shift ( 11 pm to 3 4 or 5 am ) so my reading time is all over the place. And depending on Mom's taxi service I can be in the car for 2 to 3 hrs a day.
I am in eastern time zone, in Ohio where is everyone else from and time zone
Elena wrote: "I'm afraid not, Twist, I'm sorry. I guess since we are from all over the world, midnight is at different time for everyone, hence a uniform starting time. I hope you enjoyed the book though!"I thought I started at midnight too, glad I worked last night and just got up for the day
Teresa, I'm the same time zone as you, EST. I live in Michigan. :)I just got back home from a day of shopping, so just getting into my first book for the challenge! :)
