Jade Diamond (jadediamond) Everybody's welcome to join me and C-shaw as we read The Selection by Kiera Cass

C-shaw Yay! I got a copy from the library today, chomping at the bit to start Thursday.

Jade Diamond (jadediamond) I'm still waiting for a copy to come in from the library, Can't wait to get started.

C-shaw It's interesting and a fast read.

C-shaw Starting Chapter 11. This is a book that could be read in one day, but yesterday was vexing (Mum to hospital) and couldn't get much done.
The story reminds me somewhat of _Divergent_ and also of an old TV show that was on in the U.S. in the 1950s, "Queen for a Day." Contestants vied to win fabulous prizes: washers, dryers, refrigerators, mixers, etc. :-~ with, as I recall, audience applause to determine the winner. The more downtrodden the housewives' stories and the more underprivileged young 'uns clinging to their skirts (metaphorically speaking), the better their chances.
The dystopian society in this story with its caste system reminds me of what I can recall of _The Handmaid's Tale_, a book I read decades ago (and hated!), and which is experiencing a current second round of acclaim.

C-shaw I finished _The Selection_ at 11:59 last night. It's an entertaining story, but of course ends with a cliffhanger. I'm off to the library today to get the next one in the series, which I suspect is _The Elite_.

Cordelianne Hahaha nice, will you keep updating on the Elite as well, it is interesting to hear your thoughts about those books. I have to agree with you that they are indeed a very entertaining story! That is all the books have to offer, but it is still fun to read :)

C-shaw Certainly. I got _The Elite_ today, hope to start it tomorrow. There is always a place for light, easy, fun stories. I'm enjoying this series.

Jade Diamond (jadediamond) I've read about 40 pages, and I'm enjoying it. I love the mix between dystopian and Reality TV. It's interesting. I've been really busy, but I'll have a lot time tonight to read it.

C-shaw If you like it, you might as well plan to read the next book too, if you want to find out what happens.

C-shaw I'm ready to start book No. 4, loving this series. Finally, at the end of book No. 3 there was some resolution. I was beginning to get restless about it.

Cordelianne I wanted to join in on this read, but I have been waiting for my library copy for almost a week :( Reading your comments I realised I wanted to read those books again!

C-shaw They're good, but I've learned my lesson: This is the second "buddy read" that I've done virtually by myself.

Cordelianne Ahw that is a pity, I have had the same a few times as well. If you ever want to do a buddy read, let me know in advance and I will join in!

C-shaw Thanks, same here, Cordelianne.
