Shawn Conroy The English word play is starting to get my goat. I just finished Aurora Renegades #2. But I'm including Sidespace and I assume Abysm in this. No unmarked spoilers, please.

Enjoyed this book, as I have the rest in the series by G.S. Jennsen.

From Dissonance (spoiler free) there is a part in this book where we learn something from long, long ago. There is a joke (for us, the reader) in the text where a person confuses a legion with allegiance. This joke works in English. But seems unrealistic because the language being spoken by the characters is not English.

(Some authors will either say in their language it can be a pun like ours or use wordplay that doesn't work in our language and say it works in theirs.)

We also learn the name of this non-human place. And very shortly afterward we have a discussion about the Earth-based language meaning of the name.

Why do aliens keep using English and/or other Earth language names? Hyperion I got because he was interacting with Humans. And for us the reader we just keep using that name, even though I think it's not his actual name. But more and more Earth-language names and words are being used by aliens who should not have any Earth based influences...

Wait, I could be completely wrong given the revelation at the very end of Dissonance. I have invented a way it could all make sense in my head. If that's the way Jennsen goes, or assuming she doesn't have another reason in mind.
