Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) Vampire Academy question

what did you think about the movie?

It was not as bad as TMI. I love both series, but it did lack the excitement that the books offered. Marketing was bad. Sadly, I am the person who waits 2 wks after a movie has opened before I go to the theater. Apparently, it only lasted one week in my area so I was forced to wait for it to come out on DVD.

I deny it even exists for my own sake. I'll just pretend it never happened.

I thought it was ridiculously bad.

That is so true. I agree..

I hate how people immediately compares this to Twilight. I think it's too shallow, like is that the only vampire movie you have seen in your entire life? Just because the movie has fangs in it doesn't mean it's worth comparing to that movie. I have mixed feelings towards this film. I was not that impressed. It didn't give me the satisfaction that the book gave me but at the same time I was entertained. I think the lines were funny, the actors and actresses were good. I just didn't like the actor playing Dimitri, no hate for the guy tho, but he didn't look 7 yrs older than Rose. He looked 35. That "lust charm" part, *cringe cringe*

i really enjoyed the movie purely because of the line "Are you not entertained?" A reference from Gladiator which eased the awkward forbidden love scene at the end of the movie and supplied some actual humour. this is not in the book and now i kind of wish it was. i only read the first one so if its actually in a different one, then i respect Mead's humour.

Things I didn't like:
1. DIMITRI DIDN'T SAY "ROZA"! I really wanted 2 hear how it sounded with the Russian accent. I was like, "If he wasn't going 2 say it, there's not much point in getting a Russian actor.
2. The Strigoi eyes seemed exaggerated. They could have made it more creepy without so much red - Twilight-vamp-pale, dark eyes, and red rims and dressing almost neat - almost normal with some vamp features, and BAM...creepy without too much stereotype.
3. Got some things wrong: shopping, AND THEN ROSE INJURES HER LEG, AND DIMITRI CARRIES HER TO THE INFIRMARY, the one who handed rose the necklace, where Dimitri was when she woke up, timing of shirtless Dimitri ;) ,etc.
4. Not much Romitri chemistry. Wasn't there supposed to be some after Rose wakes up in the infirmary? And the lust scene didn't seem that romantic.
Things I loved:
1. Dimitri was TOTALLY BADASS AND LOOKED SEXY DOING IT!!!!! So was Rose.
2. LOVE DANILA'S ACCENT!!! I would hve swooned if he said "Roza"
3. I think most of the acting was good.

The first time I saw the film I hated it. I thought it was terrible the acting and just ugh everything about it. It also didn't help that I went with 10 other people and they all hated the film and had no idea why I love this series so much. But watching it at home the second time I actually like it.

I actually enjoyed the movie. I thought that it was cast very well, especially Rose. The movie followed the book pretty closely, which is all you can really ask for. Some things kinda made me cringe, but nothing is ever going to be EXACTLY how we imagined it because we all see things differently in our minds when we read a book.

A disappointment for me. Without even watching it, I got the vibe of a more teenage vampire wanna-be kind of movie, or like 'mean girls' or something...and then the movie itself...well i found it really annoying that they visibly show the vampire teeth...while in the book they hide them. And it was a bit too...Fake. :(

I thought it was awful. The book was so much better. The movie was such a let down. Hated half of the actors/actresses, poor acting, relationships wdere unbelievable, eg the chemistry between Rose and Dimitri and the friendship between Rose and Lissa, and the "humor" wasn't funny.
I don't see frostbite coming out any time soon!

MOvie was good. It closely followed book. I wasnot expecting it to be good since making a good movie out of an awesome book is tough job.But Director did a commendable job with the movie. I loved the movie to the extend that I wont mind watching movie over and over though I love novels way too much <3

Thank you all for your reviews. I didn't want to pay to see this movie as I was so disappointed in TMI and after reading all your reviews, I won't even bother to watch it on DVD...Dimitri with an English accent...I think not!

It was okay...a very typical teen movie...but it didn't do the books justice IMHO...

I haven't watched the movie and I never will. To me it seemed like a parody and the book is one of my favourites of all time and i don't want it to get ruined by the movie.... the cast is not at all what i imagined for the characters

I loved that the followed so close to the books as far as the script went though it seemed a bit rushed through the scenes.

Honestly, I hated the movie. I thought the movie to be a little too "Mean girls" like, with all the high school drama.
I also did not think the actor who played Demitri was good looking at all.

I was so disappointed! The books are so good, so I kinda expected a good movie. I almost didn't see the book coming back in the movie at all! It was so twisted.
The movie itself was kinda funny, but still not okay. if they just would have chosen different actors and made the movie a little bit more mysterious and real-looking, I think it really would have been a succes!

First of all all of them were speaking with english accent....Dimitri creminded me of schwarzenegger and only rose actually could play....i didnt like it at all...

I actually liked the movie. Sure it was different in some ways, but I think the reason it went wrong was because of wrong marketing. People obviously though that this was a wanna-be twilight film, but it's not. It's so unique.
And I loved the characters!

Sharon I agree it could have been the wrong marketing. It could have still been better with the same actors. I think it depends on the scriptwriter. Wasn't R ...more

Yea I liked the movie and I thought it was pretty good, but the actors were not at all what I envisioned for the characters. Demitri was not hot or God like enough and Rose wasn't as gorgeous as she was made out to be, neither was Lissa for that matter. Christian turned out good I think and Mia did too, except I expected her to have nice long hair.
