Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments I'm back! I am looking for a book from my childhood, I was born in 1994 and I had this book from 3 to like 7 years old.

My mother and I have been searching for it forever!! We think it might have been a special promotion book with cereal or Pampers or something like that.

The book was about baby panda's first walk by himself. The story went something like this:

Baby panda wasn't afraid of the butterfly.
Baby panda wasn't very afraid of the playful monkeys.
Baby panda was only a little afraid of the great big owl saying hoo, hoo, hoo.
Then baby panda heard a crunch, crunch, crunch!
Baby panda cried I want my mommy!
Here I am, baby panda. Said momma panda.
And then momma panda gave baby panda a great big panda hug.

Seriously hoping to find this book. It would be amazing!!!!

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Can you describe the illustrations? Colorful, realistic, full page, etc?

Anything about the cover?

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments The illustrations were inked lineart with a kind of watercolor coloring. It was done in a stylised realistic style. The animals were simple realistic, and backgrounds consisted of a bamboo patch, a stone, and a tree on a white background.

I'll update this thread as soon as I hear back from my Mom on what she remembers. :)

Ayshe | 4721 comments Baby Panda? Probably not as you remember butterfly and monkeys and that wouldn't tie in with the snow :) But this is the summary I found in someone's lesson plans:
Mother Panda and Baby Panda are walking around in the snow when Baby Panda falls! Mother Panda can’t find Baby Panda but a big cat does. Mother Panda comes to the rescue and the big cat scurries away.

Is it revealed who/what made "crunch, crunch, crunch"?

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments Sorry not that one. Yes the crunch noise was momma panda eating bamboo. :)

bookel | 4029 comments Panda (Brimax, 1983)? Search Google Images, panda brimax 1983. The cover is the first result.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments My baby panda didn't wear clothes. He may have left his mother to go and either take a walk by himself or eat by himself. The idea was that his mother was watching him the whole time.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments My Mom says that cover may have been in the shape of a panda. She concurs the style was inked with a watercolor style, and the artwork was set on white.

bookel | 4029 comments Search Google and Google Images and check eBay. Panda shape board book (or use the word shaped). See if you recognise any.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments I have done that multiple times and I don't see it as has my mom. That is why we think it must have been a free promotional book that came with baby food or cereal or something. It doesn't seem to be a traditionally published book available for a bunch of people.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments Help! This may be the book, but I can't find photos of the inside --> https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/panda-f...

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments This cover looks more familiar https://www.amazon.com/Ping-Panda-Mau...

Again unless I can see the interior I won't be able to figure it out. :(

message 14: by bookel (new)

bookel | 4029 comments Ask the seller for a photo of the inside story, a couple of pages to help you decide if it's the book you want. Bookfinder.com abebooks.com are places to check for copies.

bookel | 4029 comments https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Sear... That's a board pop up book 2001.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments I will message the sellers. *Fingers crossed*

In Google Images
You can see internal pages.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments There are two versions, one that came out in 2001 and one that was published recently. The inside pages from that search seem to be from the more recent one. And it doesn't look how I remember it, however the style is right and the baby panda looks almost right.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments Ok so I was talking with my mom and it turns out my grandmother gave the book to me along with Radishes for Rabbits by Emma George and the illustrator was Elizabeth Gatt. It was published in 1989. So we did some more research and Elizabeth Gatt also illustrated a book called Brave Little Panda and Panda's New Home.

We are trying to find the photos to confirm, but there is so little information online. Radishes for Rabbits seems to have been published by at least three different companies!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

More copies if you search by author.

Email seller, ask for a photo so you can check whether it's the childhood book you were looking for.

Ayshe | 4721 comments Brave Little Panda and Panda's New Home - the GR links. I couldn't find images either.

You could also try messaging the people who have shelved them.

Amelia (amelianichole) | 22 comments It is Brave Little Panda!!!! :D

bookel | 4029 comments Well done. Often you can find your own childhood books through persistent searching and narrowing it down, sometimes with help from sellers etc. I found a few of mine that way. Picture books can rely heavily on your recognition of images. This is my childhood panda book, Pandas by Izawa.

Ayshe | 4721 comments Congrats! :) Just FYI, If you get hold of a copy and don't mind taking a picture of the cover, I (or another librarian: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...) can upload it to the goodreads record.
