Quantum (quantumkatana) May 2017 Book of the Month Group Read

Welcome to this month’s group read. As usual, this group read is to be selected by you, the members. To differentiate ourselves from most other groups, we’re focusing on lesser-known authors and books.

Mission Statement
This group Book of the Month is intended to provide exposure for lesser-known authors and books, as determined by the members, by having the members select a set of books (optionally by genre), of which at least one must be a member book, for the Book of the Month.

What is a lesser-known book?
A lesser-known author or book has the following general attributes:
* Only has a few reviews and ratings (Goodreads or Amazon)--the number is typically in the single digits, although it could also be the middle to low hundreds
* Does not have thousands of ratings or reviews
* Hasn’t won or been nominated for any awards
* Is not on any major bestsellers list
* Is not an acknowledged classic

Some examples of lesser-known works are practically any member book.

If a dispute arises as to the qualifications of a book as a lesser-known work, then common sense and consensus would prevail. In the case of a deadlock, a moderator decision would be binding.

Nomination Process
1) Each member nominates one qualified book by placing it in this thread.
2) Authors must wait until the 6th month after one of their books has been chosen as a book of the month group read before they are eligible for nomination again. For example, for this month's group read, the most recent month for which an author's book could have been the group read is November 2016.
3) The nomination process ends on 24 April at 11:59PM PST.

Final Selection Process
1) Approval voting.
To promote the broadest participation possible, you should vote for all of the books that you want to read. The nominee with the most votes would become the BoM. In this way, you don't need to vote for a book just because you think it will win even though you'd rather read another one. Instead, you can vote for both of them!
Note: This is the type of voting system that we have been using since the beginning. I'm just replacing the TBD. ^_^

2) The final selection process ends on 30 April at 11:59PM PST.

Mehreen Ahmed (mehreen2) | 1906 comments I would like to nominate my own book to be released on the 11th of May. It is a romance historical fiction based on the adventurous gold rush period in Australia.

P.K. Davies | 402 comments i guess my book Getting Tyson qualifies as a lesser-known work; so lesser-known that no one has read it yet. So, humbly, I nominate it. It is a crime-thriller about a London thug of the title. It's steeped in characters of the more recent past of the Cockney underworld - they have now been usurped by Russians, Nigerians and Asians.

Title; Getting Tyson
Author; P K Davies
Kindle. UK. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019M47TQIG
US. www.amazon.com/dp/B019M47TQIG

I am also offering twelve paperback giveaways of this book to members who would review it.

Jeffery J. | 96 comments To whoever made this offer, thanks. Here's my contender: (In case you forward it again, a version of the announcement sans typos :)

Earth to Humanity, check it out. A fun book plus a powerful way to improve our lot (a Citizen’s Dividend). Earth Day 2017 Rogue Phoenix Press releases my novel, Perfect Timing. It’s like Callenbach’s classic, Ecotopia, but comedic with surprising twists. (BTW, Ernest C. edited my nonfiction work, may he RIP). Perfect Timing conveys the tone of Hitchhiker’s Guide, offers insights like Stranger in a Strange Land, and presents an upbeat alternative, unlike Brave New World.

Ideas to help any worthy contender go viral fast (besides enjoying your own copy):
1 forward this message;
2 ask your local library to carry it;
3 ask your local bookstore to carry it;
4 gift it to a sci-fi lover;
5 review it on Amazon ASAP.

Your home planet will thank you, as do I.

Perfect Timing
by
Jeffery J. Smith

Crik Duvall is accidentally transported to the future when buildings grow, people incorporate animal powers, smart phones know it all, and vehicles defy gravity. Vigilante Voltak pursues Crik and his cat-woman guide, Tepper — could she be his distant descendant? — to return the Pastian runaway before his allotted 24 hours are up. If Crik discovers why Geotopia works right for people and planet, he can show he was vital to progress. Futurite authorities wouldn’t return their Founder to the moment he left, when gunfire bore down on him, would they?

Available at Rogue Phoenix Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble

Thanks for your nomination; however, I'm not clear on which book you want to nominate. You're only allowed one nomination. Please repost to clarify; otherwise, we won't be able to include any of these books in the nomination.

Also, it appears as though you are advertising other books. Please don't mix that in with this nomination thread. Please read the following to advertise books:

Jeffery J. | 96 comments Hi, Alex. Sorry for any confusion. The only book I'm nominating is Perfect Timing. (BTW, were the comparisons to much older titles the source of the confusion, perhaps?)

Jeffery J. | 96 comments Those other works are not mine, they were big hit works of fiction decades ago. Somewhere I read to compare one's own work to hits. To date, I have yet to pen my own other works.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments I'll also do a selfie nomination Frontier Incursion - Science Fiction (officially YA, but reads well with adults and cat lovers, apparently!)
