Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments Good job! I don't see any errors. Books L and M are the same one, though. Did you mean to include a different URL for one of them?

I'll add the Japanese title to k. ETA: Done.

Empress (the_empress) Thanks a lot for checking and fixing K Linda.

Might have duplicated L and M due to having too many tabs. since there is not amazon link that is quite likely.

If I find any other titles I'll post again in this tread as we are getting a lot of imported Japanese books with bad titles. :)

Sure, anytime. I fix them as I find them, but there are always more.

Empress (the_empress) If anyone can please double check the title and author:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
https://www.amazon.co.jp/Tsuyokisu-Ma...

Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments It's a weird one (well, the author is), but it does appear correct (per book cover, Amazon Japan, and WorldCat).

Empress (the_empress) Thank you :)

Empress (the_empress) Linda, another one for you or anyone else around here:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...
https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/4...

I'm not sure what is happening with the title. Is this bilingual edition, or is it just giving the title in Japanese and English.

The author seems to have a profile. What gets me is how different the first characters in the name seem compared to the last 3.

Thank you

message 9: by Linda (new)

Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments The title is in both Japanese and English on the cover, so whoever entered it put both (and the transliteration of the Japanese in square brackets). I think that's fine since it matches the cover.

The author name is a corporate one: メガミマガジン編集部 (Megami Magazine Editorial Department). The last three characters do look quite different, don't they? They're kanji (Chinese characters) while the rest are katakana (one of the two Japanese alphabets). Strange as it may seem to us, it's totally normal to switch script type several times within one Japanese sentence or even within a name.

It's correct as written in this case. Sometimes Japanese names get mangled during import or manual adds, so it's totally worth checking.

Empress (the_empress) Thank you for checking and the detailed explanation :)

Empress (the_empress) Hi Linda,

I hope that you can help me with my next request.

I know in Japanese often series are published with different numbering due to splitting of the editions. I noticed on this series page the full English edition is marked as book one.

Would please have a look at the following three editions and advise if those are the full book?

A
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
https://www.amazon.jp/gp/product/4042...

B
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/4...

C
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/4...

Much appreciated :)

Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments All three seem correct. I don't see any evidence that they are part 1 of 2 or something like that. I think each of them contains the entire text of Gunslinger. They all say "Dark Tower #1" or similar on them, though, so that may be introducing confusion. That 1 refers to the series as a whole, not parts of this work.

That's unusual, but if the English original isn't very long, they must have just decided not to split it into parts in the Japanese translation. All the other Japanese editions in that series do get split up, though.

I did think that might be the case, but have seen plenty of books combined incorrectly. Thank you for checking for me.

Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments I'm surprised, to be honest, because most Western books that get translated into Japanese get broken up into at least two parts. Maybe Steven King's Japanese translator for this book is pithy. :)

Empress (the_empress) Hello,

could someone please check this title:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

I removed part of what was in the field as it was not on AMAZON.JP and does not look like what is written on the cover:
https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B...

message 16: by Linda (new)

Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments Done. I made the title match the cover. Looks like a lot of the other titles from this author have similar problems but with other languages.

Yes. I have been slowly making my way through them. It's a mess. Some books don't even have actual titles - just description. However I prefer if titles are fixed after combining as the description helps on combining.. Feel free to work on the already combined works.

Thank you for fixing the above title :)

Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments I'd love to help, but right now I have a sick baby, so I don't really have time to devote to it. If it's still messed up by the time he's recovered, I'll jump in and work on it.

message 19: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) I hopehe recovers soon.

And don't worry about the profile - if it gets done it gets done. I'm not working at it everyday.

Art | 9 comments I could use a recommendation on spelling for a JP author in Japanese.

One author has his romanized author profile (Yukiya Murasaki) and then two different author entries for his Japanese name, one with a space and one without (むらさきゆきや / むらさき ゆきや).

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I'm guessing the difference on goodreads likely arose because some amazon.jp entries list the name with a space and some don't (it can be different between kindle and print for the same title even). From looking at the cover of some of his books, it doesn't appear there is a space, but I don't know enough about the Japanese language to know if one version is obviously correct.

Minor spelling difference don't warrant a separate profile as far as can tell from the librarian manual, so I was planning on merging one into the other, but I wasn't sure which should be favored?

message 22: by Linda (last edited Feb 06, 2018 07:41AM) (new)

Linda (lindalanz) | 159 comments I don't know that this is covered in the manual since it's so Japanese-specific, but I generally include a space between the two parts of the name.

message 23: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) Hi Lindoula, or anyone else available.

I need confirmation of the translation of this title: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
https://www.amazon.co.jp/全体主義の起原-1-――...

I suspect it has been combined with the wrong book. So I need confirmation from what is it translated and also need to know volume 1 of how many is the translation

Abcdarian | 26579 comments Google translate says Origin of totalitarianism 1 - Anti-Semitism; Hannah Arendt is listed as one of the authors and the series of 3 is listed at the end of the description:
Origin of totalitarian all three volumes
1 Anti-Semitism
2 Imperialism
3 Totalism

Empress (the_empress) Thanks!
