After recently finishing this book I need to discuss with others who loved it...

Absolutely loved this book. Unconventional to say the least, but very moving. Felt so sad for Lincoln and the loss of his son. What a remarkable man to get through such a tragedy and still carry on his duties. I was totally fascinated with the Bardo. Did not completely understand what was going on, but it certainly made me wonder about the afterlife--if there is one. And I grew to enjoy the characters. I'm sure there is deep meaning to how they were portrayed, which will eternally enrich classrooms and friendly discussions for ages. Gets at: What is the meaning of life and death. Somber reading but valuable to me.

I listened to this in audio and it was just fabulous. The voices were all like a Greek chorus. I can't thin of any better way to experience it than as an audiobook

I tried reading the book but got distracted (and a bit confused) by the many different characters who pop in and out. I gave up on the book and got the audio version. I was drawn into the story immediately! I couldn't wait to start my daily commute so I could enjoy listening. Its a brilliant book. Thoroughly enjoyed the audio version!

I read this book, nearly gave upon it because of the style - I've never read a book like it. But once I got used to it and could work out who was who and who was dead or alive, it was great. But not an easy book, that's for sure. I think the only other book I read that I was totally bamboozled to begin with and for some time afterwards, was E.L. Doctorow's "Book of Daniel".

Loved it. It took me a bit to get into it. The opening scene reminded me of the Spectrum TV ad with the ghouls playing charades. :) But by the end, I'd come to believe was one of the most powerful pieces of fiction I'd read that year. Or any year.

I think I concur with all your comments and believe that was the way you were meant to come out of the book. Whether you believe in an afterlife or not, you soon start to believe in the dead characters as being real. Enjoyed immensely.
