I'd like to read more books like this, too, so I can't wait to see what books y'all suggest. I love super hero stories, especially ones that seem real, gritty, and are grounded in reality. I don't want to sound like I'm shilling here, but a few years back, I decided to write my own romantic suspense novel about characters with super powers. (It just came out. Yay).
On the surface, yes, there are lots and lots of stories about people with super heroes, but I found that there were very few that actually seemed like they could be happening, right now, out there somewhere, in our world. And, there weren't a lot of stories without the tights and costumes aspect, which don't get me wrong I love, but wasn't really what I was looking for at the time.
On my to-read shelf in this genre is...
"The Young Elites" by Mary Liu and "Vicious" by V.E. Schwab
They might lean more toward the dystopian than you'd like to go, although I've heard they are pretty good.
And on the lighter/romance side:
Looking for a Hero by Joy Nash or Aphrodite's Kiss (1st in a series) by Julie Kenner

You might find Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. It's the first in a trilogy about a world where some people find they gain superpowers, but everyone who does get superpowers decides to become a supervillain! All the heroes are normal people.
You have to try the Southern Sanctuary Series - Romance, action and loads of humour. The characters tend to have different magical powers. There are nine in the series.

The Young Elites and Vicious are not really PNR books are they ?
Yeah. Once I thought more about it I'd say those two are more dark fantasy. My bad. I was hung up on the super powers part, of which they fit the bill!Looking for a Hero and Aphrodite's Kiss definitely qualify as funny super hero romance, though!

Playing with fire seem great ! I just finished reading "Finding Sky" that was also an interesting book I enjoyed. It's the same genre if people are interested ;)

I liked the evolution series by S.A Huchton -Candace Bristol has always been obsessed with comic books, but in a world where the nightly news often mirrors these inked stories, her dreams of becoming a real superhero could actually come true. I'd recommend The mortal instrument it takes place in our world ( in NewYork ) and had characters with a kind of supernatural powers though i'm not sure if this is the kind of superhuman abilities you're seeking in a book.There is also the Red Queen trilogy which follows characters with superhuman powers but takes place in a fictional world.

I loved Graceling by Kristin Cashore. It's not exactly superpowers. But some people are born with a skill high superior than everyone else. It can be anything from sword fighting, to flower decorating. I haven't checked but there is probably a sample on amazon to read. Great book

I loved Kristin Cashore's graceling series. Amazingly inventive.

I also love the specific genre! And you might have seen this suggestion before but I'd recommend the Arcana Chronichles series!It's just like Hunger Games but with super powers / supernatural creatures.
Lots of characters (from teens to in their 20s) have special abilities depending on their "Tarot card". It might depend on the person but I loved the romance element in the book.

I don't really read books about superpowers but I would recommend that you read the Mortal instruments series by Cassandra Clare. It's a YA book series (My all time favourite YA book) that has alot romance and alot of action. There are 6 books in the series but the first book isn't really that good but the rest of the series is really good. I am trying not togie away to mich on the series but if you watch the Shadowhunters TV show then you would have probably heard if this book series as the show is based on these books, the books are so much better than the show by the way. It's about this girl who's name is Clary and on her 16th birthday she goes to this club with her best friend who has a crush on her. At the club she wittneses a person being murdered but no one else seems to see what she is seeing. One of the "murderers" notices her as she is asking them why they are killing the man. Basically her mum later goes missing in the book, she is kidnapped by a man named Valentine. The man who sees her at the club who's name is Jace later finds her and introduces her to the shadowhunter world. She learns that she is part Angel part humen and apart of this superhero like race who protects humans from supernatural beings called downworlders. She has powers that she can use after using a rune (similar to a temporary tatoo). As the series goes on she later learns she has more superhuman abilities, more power then any normal shadowhunter. She grows a relationship with Jace, finds out her friends has a crush in her and then there is a huge twist at the end. All of which happen in the first book. My favourite book has to be the third and last book in the series as we are introduced to more important characters through the third and a huge battle in the last. There are many twists in this series and there are also two other book series that are sort of like a spin of omof this series. One is called the Infernal devices a trilogy, based on the 19th century and the other is called Lady midnight also a trilogy, which is based I think 5 years after the last Mortal Instuments book and the second book came out just over a month ago.

by Ilona Andrews. It takes place in the world where nearly everybody is born with some magic. What kind of magic and how strong it is varies. I feel like the world building is excellent, and the heroine is super cool. And her family is a hoot!
An Urban Fantasy book/ series I keep recommending and coming back to is
by Karen Lynch. One of my all-time favorites with amazing characters and a lot of supernatural stuff going on.Book 1 is perma free on Amazon.
These are all about super powers although the H can only control rope
both are available on KU.
The Reckoner's trilogy has superpowers:

This superhero book is new and creating some buzz. It's on my TBR but it's also upper-YA so I don't know if you read those.
I read the first of this series and enjoyed it too.

I have to admit, I wasn't as excited as everyone, but it was still interesting.

Not so much on the romance, but fantastic super powers books that I've read are:Drew Hayes - Forging Hephaestus, the Super Powereds series, Corpies (Super Powereds offshoot)
Forging Hephaestus
Brandon Sanderson - The series that starts with Steelheart. This one is interesting because it takes place in a world with no super heroes and a lot of super villains. There's also a romantic sub plot but it's not the focus.

I just finished these two books in the new Beyond Human series by Nina Croft and I thought there were terrific. They take place in our "regular" world, but the characters have powers being exploited by the government. Lots of hot-n-heavy, too. Each book features a new couple.
I have these on my shelf but haven't got around to them. They look good though

I've read a lot of suggestions from other posts but I didn't find what I really want.
In fact, I'm looking for a book with characters who have superpowers in our world. Action packed and a romance included. And humor in books always make them better !
The Lux series are the best books I've read so far, Daemon was excellent and his powers were perfect but I never get to read an other book like this one.
Thanks for your suggestions.
