Badwxlf Hello!! Thank you for coming!

I'm looking for books that have great plots, regardless of genre (mystery, supernatural, fantasy, historical... you name it!) and still manages to have good romances too. But I want to the romance to remain a subplot and a subplot only, it'd be such a shame for it to consume the entire thing...

The romance has to be there, but it shouldn't be the main focus (maybe a romantic scene like a page or two every once in a while, for example).

I'd prefer the mc to be a girl and no insta-love, please.

I'd welcome any recommendations if you'd be okay with giving them!!! Thank you so much!!

My novel Weeping Well could be right up your alley. The romance isn't the central plot which is how I prefer to write all my books. The main character is female and there is no insta-love. But the male and female characters are shown as equals which develops an attraction. I can't say anymore. If you're interested, it's an international crime mystery thriller/suspense/multicultural, multiracial set in 1989-2007, paranormal, romance, coming of age.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 88 comments Does this blurb sound like what you might be looking for?

One Dark Night

"It is 1821 and smuggling is rife on the English coast. Lucy Yorton, dragged away from her privileged early life, finds it impossible to know who to trust, while those around her suspect she is a spy and treat her accordingly. Her problems increase when two men enter her life.

Lieutenant Karl Thorsen, sworn to avenge the death of his father, is a King's man. He is determined to stop the violent smugglers, hang them, and hang and gibbet one in particular.

Daniel Tynton has smuggling in his blood. Undaunted by Thorsen's threats, he is respected and feared. When he witnesses a murder, he makes a bold decision, and many lives will never be the same. (less)"

Or the stand alone sequel? Under a Dark Star.

"n 1823, on an island off the south coast of England, there are activities worse than smuggling and all the conflict points to one cruel and ruthless man. The women on the island call him the Dark Star.

Reformed smuggler, Daniel Tynton, and his old enemy, Lieutenant Karl Thorsen, join forces to defeat the evil that brings poverty to ‘the diamond isle’. Karl falls for the woman belonging to the Dark Star with profound consequences."

This is the link to my profile page where you can link up to the books if you're interested.

I know what you mean when you ask for stronger plots - I like those too, and if I think of any other authors doing this, I'll let you know.

Just thought of another author strong on plot and lighter on romance: Lexi Revellian.

Groovy Lee Hi, Allerleirauh

A BODY RESURRECTED is a Kindle Suspense/Romance/Sci-Fi, heavy on the suspense, light on the romance, and sci-fi. I must say my characters do have an instant, strong attraction for one another; and of course, love grows as they battle against evil together. Thank-you!

A Body Resurrected by Groovy Lee

BLURB:
Sixteen year-old Mira is an Egyptian girl who lives a quiet life in her small village in Lower Egypt 3303 B.C.E. But two visitors from the planet Aut are about to change that. The first “flying metal” that whips across the sky carries a murderous plague by the name of Demen. The second one that follows, brings a bounty-hunter named Weir. Against her father’s wishes, Mira becomes Weir’s accomplice in his mission to apprehend Demen before another woman dies by his hands.

But there’s a problem: Demen is now a powerful Pharaoh in the city of Sharkura. Will apprehending him cost Weir and Mira their lives?

Almay, California, USA, twenty-first century:

Tina Leggs oversees the artifacts and exhibits of the Graham-Arlee museum. She has no idea that the mummy exhibit that’s drawing huge crowds, is the same Demen that her ancestor, Mira, bravely faced centuries ago.

Demen is no longer a powerful Pharaoh. Now, he’s nothing more than a museum exhibit since he was discovered in the Valley of the Kings. But a rare occurrence will give him life once more. And his desire to kill the misery known as woman is as strong as ever.

Enter Q, a second bounty-hunter sent from Aut to capture him. Like Mira, Tina has been cast into the role of ally to this handsome visitor. Amid the destruction Demen is causing, and the risk to their lives to stop him, a bond of love has developed between them.

But, will she leave her family on Earth for the sake of that love?
