Quantum (quantumkatana) Why not? It's a story, right?

For one year, I subscribed to the San Francisco Opera to expose my daughter to really outstanding singing. It dramatizes a great story too.
Du Yun Wins Music Pulitzer For 'Angel's Bone'

The Pulitzer jury describes the piece as a bold work "that integrates vocal and instrumental elements and a wide range of styles into a harrowing allegory for human trafficking in the modern world."
...
Her works have been called cutting edge, yet she feels that the intelligence of classical music audiences should not be underestimated.

"The audience in the art world is ready," she said. "The audience for literature is always ready. Our opera audience is also ready. But if we are not presenting it in such a way that creates a dialog [sic], the audience would never be ready, because we don't think we're ready."

Nik Krasno | 19869 comments Nice cross-art idea. Can't see my stuff being 'operable', but I'll be ready -:)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I think my books are too complicated for opera, and worse, since many have characters killing other ones, the operatic scene would horrify me. Trying to sing your disappointment at just having been killed always strikes me as bizarre.

As an aside, I have also composed music, and I even entered a competition once for a symphonic piece. I didn't win - the winner was an erstwhile pupil of the judge (Aargh), but the effort doing it was enough to persuade me i would never try opera :-)

Elizabeth ♛Smart Girls Love Trashy Books♛ (pinkhairedwannabe) | 65 comments That would be strange, seeing how one of my novels is a retelling of Les Miserables and the other is a retelling of Phantom of the Opera.....if they were made into operas it would be some really sort of weird meta.

Justin (justinbienvenue) If people are still into opera why the hell not.
