C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Harry Potter is due to start his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His best friends Ron and Hermione have been very secretive all summer and he is desperate to get back to school and find out what has been going on. However, what Harry discovers is far more devastating than he could ever have expected...

Suspense, secrets and thrilling action from the pen of J.K. Rowling ensure an electrifying adventure that is impossible to put down.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yay! Are you going to read with us?

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) Elizabeth wrote: "Yes. Is it ok if I already read it before?"

I pretty sure it is. I have read it at least four times now.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yes, absolutely fine to have read it before! I've read it multiple times as well, just not in years!

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I've only read one chapter so far. Hoping to read a little more tonight. I was driving all day, so wasn't able to fit any in before.

I am only on chapter 3. I forgot how smart alec Harry was.

Maya White | 734 comments Yaaas!!! I love Harry Potter. And I'm about half way through the fifth book. Is it still okay if I join this?

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Of course, Maya!

I just finished chapter 3. Harry is definitely a smart alec. And (view spoiler)

Totally. I forgot how irritating Umbridge is, I think the movie did well with casting. And Cornelius Fudge... so much in denial I just want to slap him.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'm reading really slowly. Not sure why...

I'm through chapter 5 now. (view spoiler)

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) C.P. wrote: "I'm reading really slowly. Not sure why...

I'm through chapter 5 now. Fudge let his power go to his head. I don't think he's evil, just warped.

Fred and George are great. Extendable ears.

Fred and George are my favorite. I kind of feel for Harry but at the same time this book really shows why he's not a Ravenclaw.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Fred and George have always been my favorites as well. I just love them. I'm through chapter 7 now.

And I feel like Harry could have only been a Gryffindor or Slytherin. He wouldn't have fit either of the other houses.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments :) I'm going rather slowly so no worries.

Oh no... :(

I'm on chapter 10. I haven't read a bunch last night. I will tonight. Hopefully.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Sorry to hear about his broken arm. Was it at a game or practice, or just not related injury? Good luck with your softball!

Through chapter 10. (view spoiler)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Through chapter 12. Umbridge is horrible. Harry is irritating. But this book is really good. It's even better than I remember, and it was always one of my favorites.

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) I've learned that I really didn't like Cho and I'm very happy she didn't work out with Harry.

message 20: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I was never a fan of Cho. Haven't gotten to her main points in this one, but she always bothered me.

So glad I'm not the only one. She just seemed a little to immature for me. I just couldn't ever get myself to like her.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I don't really know what it was that I didn't like. But I do find her a little irritating in this one (and know it will get worse).

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) It does get worse...

I really don't like Harry's "I fought Voldemort. I saw him. Why won't anyone believe me." attitude. He grates my nerves. It's worse in the next book though when he's after Malfoy, but this one he is so acting like a child.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I've never been a big fan of Harry. And this is where he gets really bad. But I'm really enjoying the book. It's much more involved than the previous three.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Previous four.

I use to like Harry when I was younger. Now that I am older I have come to the terms that Harry is a very ungrateful person. He never really notices a lot in front of him.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Exactly! I get that he's had a hard life, but come on. That's notl reason to be selfish. Which is pretty much all he's been this book.

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) C.P. wrote: "Exactly! I get that he's had a hard life, but come on. That's notl reason to be selfish. Which is pretty much all he's been this book."

Yeah it doesn't really change much.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Yes, it's so frustrating! And he doesn't seem to learn from this. If he did that would be fine.

I must admit that I have somewhat of a soft spot for Draco (though I do know he is a terrible jerk most of the time). Although, admittedly, this might be my kind-of obsession with Tom Felton that makes me like Draco. Not sure.

I think after the six, most definitely the seventh book I started to have a soft spot for Draco. Him and Harry were just kids that were thrown into the adult world way to early. Both are self centered jerks but there are times that I wonder if Harry would be like this if his mother and father were still with him and he hadn't been raised with the Dursleys. But then I think wouldn't he most likely end up like his father, when his father was in school.

message 31: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Exactly. I think most of the kids were just a product of their circumstances. I just wish there were a bit more development with some of this. It would have been nice to see them learning more than they did.

Yes. With Draco, he grew up around prejudice so that is all he knew. While Ron who like Draco comes from a pure blood family, doesn't know prejudice due to the fact of his parents were against it.

message 33: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments Very true. It's what they were taught. It would be nice to see them learn though. In some ways they do, which is good, sometimes I just wish for a little more.

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) Elizabeth wrote: "I think sometime we should have a decision/read together for The Hunger Games."

I own all three books. I can start any time.

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) Elizabeth wrote: "Well maybe when we are done with this book."

Of course. Where are you in the book now?

message 36: by C.P. (new) - rated it 5 stars

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 8238 comments I'm hoping to read more of this today. Still not that far in myself. Where have you guys gotten to?

Jamie (The Kansan Reader) (thekansanreader) C.P. wrote: "I'm hoping to read more of this today. Still not that far in myself. Where have you guys gotten to?"

I finished the book this morning.
