Amy (amybinok) | 2 comments A young man traveling around new york / manhattan, mostly by foot, I think, mostly alone. There may be a time travel element. Mists rise and the timeframe and context (possibly even the protagonist) changes, although I believe it is all or mostly set in the new york area, just different historical times. I vaguely remember something about a ship, definitely remember mists and water, and possibly a horse(?) I read it about 38 years ago, in paperback form, so it's at least that old. So sorry but the memory is pretty vague. I was 12 or 13 when I read it but was regularly reading adult novels by then and I'm fairly certain it is one. I have been searching enough to know it is not any of the following books:
"A Wrinkle in Time"
"Time and Again"
"Steps out of Time"

Thanks in advance for any help!

Bryn (brynplusplus) | 186 comments Could it be Mark Helprin's A Winter's Tale? I haven't read it in a long, long time but there is a lot of fog and it is all about New York and yes, there's definitely a horse.

38 years before 2017 was 1979. "A Winter's Tale" appears to have been published in 1983.

Amy, was that your book? Or are you still looking?
