Are there any sci-fi book series like this?

I got Steven Spielberg Presents Taken (2002)http://www.amazon.com/Steven-Spielber on DVD from my library and it is AWESOME! Can't believe it only lasted 1 season! Probably because it was shown on the horrible Sci-Fi channel[which is why I never saw it then]!

Anyway, I think a book series with a story like that would be incredible,so does anyone know of any?
