Since there are several authors in the group is there anywhere we can post info about our books to see if anyone in the group wanted to read one? Don't know about other authors, but I'd be happy to send a free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review...... Forget this, I've just found the page! Sorry, I'm new!

I added something for you! :)

Our poll will be ending in about 3 days...Please vote on the books you want to read, I will add a poll for the books today so we can start voting.
How about some kind of a theme read where people can read different books and post about them? It could be by the month or the season and could relate to the month or the season or perhaps something else.

I like this idea!

Some of the other groups I'm in do Read A Thons which is a fun way to see what everyone else is reading.
Aly wrote: "Not many people voted on the poll we may run something else later."Sometimes I accidentally miss polls, but if you sent us a group email then I either voted if I liked a choice. Sometimes I opt not to vote if the clear winner is something I won't enjoy reading.
ETA Actually, I just voted on the poll for Jan 1, but not for the Agatha Christie (which is a good choice) because I have one of the other books here at home in my library pile to read soon.

thank you for your vote! We may rerun the poll for a themed read later because we didn't get many vote on it.

I like the monthly theme/topic idea too. It'd be fun to see what participants choose and why/how it relates to the theme.

I started one for you. If you want, you can start one as well. Is that what you had in mind. If not, please start you own thread. :)

I look at several sites daily which list free kindle books. Since I have the time (I'm on disability) to do this I would gladly list several in a thread here if it is something people would like. I'd just like to know which genres would be most appreciated. I have it down to a science now and find what I think are the best offered. There are a lot of really good self published books out there and I've discovered many excellent authors this way. Let me know what you think.

I am always looking for free books myself. Do you mind posting what you find under the thread "sharing books"? Is there a way you can compile a list of what you find and post it there? Is that too big of an ask? I think many people would love about free books.

Yes I can do that. The best site I've found for free books is ereaderiq.com. You can track books you are looking for at a discount or for free and they will notify you when the book is offered at it below the price you want to pay. You can track authors too and anytime one of their books is discounted you're notified.

thanks, I will check out this site!

Do you think that we can have a more wide variety of books to choose from? I haven't really liked the previous selection for March, maybe involve some historical fiction or dystopian. Thank you for your time. -Ms.T

Yes, please nominate some in the threads under Indie books or A list. We will then vote on top books for next group read.

This is more of a question than suggestion. Would anyone like to read a classic as a pair or group to encourage each other to keep going?I ask because I want to read Tess of the D'Urbervilles again. It's been decades since I read it and I remember Thomas Hardy being a really hard read. I think one of his books I was required to read (not Tess) I finally gave up and read The CliffsNotes. I know, terrible and pathetic isn't it?
How about picking a period in history? Like WWII, Henry VIII or vikings. Whatever but it would give people the option to read fiction or non-fiction. There's the civil war, WWI, the indian wars, the gold rush etc. There are a lot of options in history to choose from.
Patricia I'd like to read David copperfield and Oliver Twist. I did my high school senior thesis on dickens. What an interesting life!
I want to read Little Dorrit. I bought the DVD and it was defective so I missed the good parts. Bleak House is suppose to be really good too. There are so many classics I haven't read. At some point I want to read some of Thomas Hardy's novels. Jude the Obscure is suppose to be good. It got such bad reviews after he wrote it he never wrote another novel. He wrote about things that were shocking in his time like rape in Tess of the D'urbervilles.
Personally, I love theme reads and challenges. I saw Karin's previous comment about doing something for the seasons, and I think that would be a fun idea. Maybe a theme read for winter?

Good idea! Got an idea for a theme? Love suggestions for this, as well, if you have some.

What if there was a page for everyone to write their favorite book so everyone could see it and decide if the wanted to read it?
I really like the idea of theme reads. So we don't necessarily have to have a Book of the Month, but we can have a theme and then somewhere where everyone can post about what they have chosen and if they are liking it or not and what they recommend.

An easy theme to choose is bullying where any character has an unpleasant experience with a bully which happens in most books. This theme gives you tons of options to read. Everyone can pick a book than review it when they are done so others can decide to read it or not.
enid wrote: "An easy theme to choose is bullying where any character has an unpleasant experience with a bully which happens in most books. This theme gives you tons of options to read. Everyone can pick a book..."Enid we have a historical fiction theme read right now. I've seen so many historical fiction books that address bullying. Especially books based in the late 1800's and early 1900's in the south involving poor children. I probably have a few on my kindle. Then there are those about "indian schools." The possibilities are endless in this category and it's the best way to learn a little history and have fun doing it!
Historical fiction is my favorite genre. I got sucked into it by reading John Jakes Bicentennial Series in high school (yes I'm that old) and haven't stopped since. I've learned more history reading fiction than I did in high school and college combined.
If you tell me what age category you read I can come up with a few suggestions if you would like. When I noticed my daughter wasn't being taught history in school I started buying her books that were historically based and she loved them.
I love historical fiction I am middle age so I read pretty much anything because I work with children.
I've read some fantastic historical fiction over the past year.
This was a five star book for me and I still can't believe it's a true story.I'm planning to start
this week and then will read
Next I'll be going back to the Tudors because I found some books about the lesser know wives. If you're looking for a bully Henry VIII is one of the biggest bullies to ever live. I keep reading about him trying to figure him out. I never will because he was pure insane evil. I also found two about his daughter Mary. For someone so destructive she's been greatly overlooked so I'm looking forward to reading those.
Then I have about a hundred more from all different time periods lined up. I served in the Navy and worked in intelligence so I'm excited about the many books being written about women in WWII who were code breakers and with the resistance. It's about time they get credit for the important work they did. They made it possible for me to do that job.
