Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments This project, which we will be beginning this month is intended to run across the next two years as we do other projects. It is a more lighthearted project, involving Children's animated films and the books involved are much shorter and involve less time than any books in our other projects. That said, they still contain depth that we hope to be able to unlock as we read and watch!

1. Doctor Seuss - Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoons, The Lorax
2. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves/ Cinderella/The Princess and the Frog/ Sleeping Beauty/ Tangled - The Brother's Grimm Collection
3. Arrietty/ The Borrowers and 4. Howl’s Moving Castle (Studio Ghibli Adaptations)
5. The Wind in the Willows
6. Alice in Wonderland
7. Animal Farm
8. A Christmas Carol (for December - the focus to be put upon)
9. 101 Dalmations
10. The Phantom Tollbooth
11. Treasure Island/Treasure Planet
12. The Jungle Book
13. Charlotte’s Web
14. Black Beauty
15. Watership Down
16. Winnie The Pooh
17. The Secret of NIMH (The book is Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH)
18. Tarzan
19. Astro Boy, Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox - alternative animation styles (across 2 months)
21. The Princess and the Frog
22. Basil the Mouse Detective
23. The Black Cauldron
24. The Little Mermaid/ Frozen/ The Emperor’s New Groove/ The Ugly Duckling/ Thumbelina - Hans Christian Anderson & the fairytales of Charles Perault

If you like the look of the list then feel free to join us from this month onwards! I'll be mainly in charge of this challenge, but my fellow moderators will also help out as needed :D

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments For June 2014 we will run the Dr. Seuss segment of the project!

message 3: by Alana (new)

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments Sounds fun! And some of these are much shorter reads, making them much easier to accomplish :)

message 4: by Blueberry (new)

Blueberry (blueberry1) Has anybody ever seen the play Seussical? It's one of my favorites! It's fun and the music is very catchy. If you haven't seen it, the Cat in the Hat is the narrator and some of the main characters are Horton, Gertrude McFuzz, JoJo, Mayzie, and the sour Kangaroo. Also included are the Who's, Yertle the Turtle, General Genghis Khan Schmitz, ...

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments I've never heard of that, but it sounds fun!

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments The Seussical was run at my old school. It's a great musical production!

I really like this idea. As I am currently overwhelmed with stuff not related to books, this might be very refreshing project to do in between. Light and fun :)

message 8: by Gary (new)

Gary Vassallo A lot of great books, I'm interested. I've read a lot of the Dr Seuss books and really love them. I also think Seussical is a really fun musical.

Mrs Benyishai | 35 comments when I worked in kindergardens I used the "cat in the hat" to encourage the children to clean up and it worked wonderfully Now my grandchildren love the book

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments Alright I'm opening up the Brother's Grimm discussion sections for this month of July! Will begin with Snow White and Rapunzel before in the second half of the month opening up threads for The Princess and the Frog and Cinderella.

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments Please don't hesitate to start commenting on the new threads and so forth which are up. I'm going to leave the other threads standing alone for the next few days and it would be awesome if anyone who wants to can comment on the two fairytales and adaptations that are there. Surely you all know something about the fairytales? Or have seen the Disney versions?

message 13: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments The threads for the second part of The Brother's Grimm are now open. When August comes upon us I will open up the threads for The Borrower's and Howl's Moving Castle - with the films based on these from Studio Ghibli (I think it's nice to have some foreign animated films as well as more western films). The discussion for these two will take place across all of August and September before we move onto some animal features with October covering Animal Farm and The Wind in the Willows. November we will cover Alice in Wonderland for a touch of whimsy and then December will be A Christmas Carol. So get yourselves excited and your reading lists prepared! :)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments The threads for Arriety and Howl's Moving Castle are up! Please join in with the discussion and enjoyment (whether discovering or rediscovering these books and films :D )

message 15: by Marren (new)

Marren | 127 comments How did I miss this one. I am very much interested, I began rereading some of my stories I grew up with and plan to read some on your list, in the near future God willing. Is there any place we can keep our recorded reads like in previous projects? Or is this one different in that we just read and comment on the individual book thread.

message 16: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 129 comments It's mainly making comments on the main book thread. Speaking of which I must set up the Alice in Wonderland thread soon...

message 17: by Marren (new)

Marren | 127 comments Ok, Jonathan, no problem. Thanks.

Powder River Rose (powderriverrose) | 40 comments Did this project ever come to fruition? I'm noticing the thread for the first time and am interested. Since I don't see any other threads for the project I will just make a copy of the list and go from there. Many of the books I have already read and in turn seen some of the movies. As you mentioned it could take up to 2 years so I'll start mine now. Always looking for new ways to enjoy books and movies. Thanks for the list.

All of our Projects are under this heading, broken down into different threads by both project name and by the book. So the threads for Animated films will be the ones to look for :)

Thank you Alana. I see now where they are and realized I didn't back out into the discussion page but back to the group's main page. I really like this project and look forward to participating. Happy day to you. Rose

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments Please feel free to explore the other challenges as well: we have one for Epics as well as some others. They are kind of a "come ad join at will" kind of thing, so feel free to jump into them individually as you have time :)

Powder River Rose (powderriverrose) | 40 comments I saw Epics also though at first glance it looked a bit daunting, however I will join in as time allows, thank you.
