Quantum (quantumkatana) April 2017 Book of the Month Group Read

Welcome to this month’s group read. This group read is to be selected by you, the members. To differentiate ourselves from most other groups, we’re focusing on lesser-known authors and books.

Update: Some rules and procedures have changed as indicated by underlined text.

Mission Statement
This group Book of the Month is intended to provide exposure for lesser-known authors and books, as determined by the members, by having the members select a set of books (optionally by genre), of which at least one must be a member book, for the Book of the Month.

What is a lesser-known book?
A lesser-known author or book has the following general attributes:
* Only has a few reviews and ratings (Goodreads or Amazon)--the number is typically in the single digits, although it could also be the middle to low hundreds
* Does not have thousands of ratings or reviews
* Hasn’t won or been nominated for any awards
* Is not on any major bestsellers list
* Is not an acknowledged classic

Some examples of lesser-known works are practically any member book.

If a dispute arises as to the qualifications of a book as a lesser-known work, then common sense and consensus would prevail. In the case of a deadlock, a moderator decision would be binding.

Nomination Process
1) Each member nominates one qualified book by placing it in this thread.
2) Authors must wait until the 6th month after one of their books has been chosen as a book of the month group read before they are eligible for nomination again. For example, for this April's group read, the most recent month for which an author's book could have been the group read is October 2016.
3) The nomination process ends on 27 March at 11:59PM PST.

Final Selection Process
1) Rules TBA.
2) The final selection process ends on 31 March at 11:59PM PST.

Logan C. | 3 comments This is absolutely shameless, but I'm new to goodreads and would like to nominate my stock market book:)

I've made a lot of money trading over the years, I started when I was 13 and was managing money for a bunch of clients at my country club by 15. I recommend my book because I think I can help you all see through Wall Street's bullshit and get the money you deserve. The main theme of my book is that Wall Street beats retail investors through a series of small edges, like commissions, fees, bid/ask spreads and margin interest, much like the house edge at the casino or sportsbook. I show you where these edges are and how you can avoid them.

Here's the link- http://amzn.to/2nkcpQK

I made 100k in stocks (split 50/50 with my clients) before I graduated high school, and my book is selling in 17 countries so far. I'm fascinated by self publishing, and I'm hopefully looking forward to getting to know some of you. Friend me on goodreads, I'm not on every day, but I'm happy to contribute a little!

Thanks!

Quantum (quantumkatana) I just wanted to encourage those authors who nominated their books for March's group read but were not chosen to nominate this time as well.

(Rule #2 in the Nomination Process only applies to those authors who have actually been selected as a group read.)

Quantum (quantumkatana) I've also been apprised that not everyone can see the final poll results. Here are the results for the March BoM final voting round. As you can see, it was close.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1579 comments So, I'll also do the self nomination thing, if that's OK.

Frontier Incursion by Leonie Rogers by Leonie Rogers.

It's officially YA science fiction, but it reads well with adults and cat lovers apparently.

Quantum (quantumkatana) Just a quick reminder:

The nomination process ends today, 27 March, at 11:59PM Pacific Time!

message 11: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1857 comments I would request that you have slightly longer nomination time. I did not receive this notice until the 28th (because I am on the other side of the date line) but because of the time phase difference and one or two other aspects, I did not see it until 1442 hrs Pacific time on the 27th. I hate retrospective invitations :-( .

Quantum (quantumkatana) I apologize. It was an oversight on my part to start the nomination period late on 24 March.

M.L. Hey Ian, all,

Just a heads-up there is a tight turn-around on the voting too, so be sure to watch for the poll and vote! Nice selection! :)
