Quantum (quantumkatana) Last year, my middle-school daughter introduced me to nongendered pronouns with the third-person subject pronoun, ze.

Just this evening, this article clued me into the use of nongendered pronouns:

Seems like it's becoming more mainstream.

Have you read books that use nongendered pronouns? Which ones?

Daniel J. Nickolas (danieljnickolas) | 111 comments I have not read any books with non-gendered pronouns, but I am aware of the long history of proposals to adopt a such a pronoun into the English language (which can be seen in that Wikipedia article). I think officiating a non-gendered personal pronoun into English to be used alongside the current gendered pronouns is a great idea.

Sweden officially adopted a non-gendered pronoun into the Swedish language back in 2006. The new pronoun has been slow to catch on (as might be expected) though it is used.

I digress from the topic -- Ursula K. LeGuin's The Left Hand of Darkness features an alien species who can biologically change their gender. The book is on my "to read" list, but I wouldn't be surprised if pronouns are addressed.
