Sadly, Colin Dexter, author of the Inspector Morse series of books, has passed away. I know a LOT of you have enjoyed his work, either reading the novels or watching the dramatizations on TV.

Zoe Radley | 558 comments R.i.p inspector morse is perhaps one of my best loved detective characters (especially John thaw's inspector morse as he quintessentially was what I had imagined morse to be and look like) I am sad but I have the complete set of his books to cherish and read again and again.

Morse is one of the characters that pretty much any crime/mystery reader knows, and you're right -- he is John Thaw!

Thanks for the good times, Mr. Dexter, and may you join Insp. Morse in a peaceful resting place.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 407 comments I feel the same kind of sadness that I felt reading The Remorseful Day. Such a sense of loss.

Bill His 12 books spawned a successful TV series and 2 spin-offs. By all reports, he was a lovely man. The missus and I always tried to find him during his cameos on the various series.

I know, but believe it or not, I'm a sensitive sort of person and it would be awful for me. I know it's just fiction, but still. :)

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 407 comments It's not easy to watch Nancy - but it's worth it. It was such a fitting end.

Bill It's understandable, Nancy, when you get invested with an excellent character, you want it to continue. But it is still an excellent touching episode.

I know. I did the same with the last episode of the Swedish version of Wallander -- just couldn't do it, knowing what comes next.
