I read this book in the early 2000s, but it could have been written in the 1990s. After the father attempts suicide, he moves the family to a small town in the desert. They open a small restaurant where the daughter works. She befriends two guys in the town, completely different from one another. One is popular and the other is quiet and lives on a ranch I think. At some point during the book, the top of the house or restaurant catches on fire. The quiet guy ends up being found dead in his jeep, possibly by a snake bite or gun shot. I think the cover art is a desert with the title going through a pink outline of a heart. Thanks for your help!
