Taylor | 2 comments I believe it's a relatively new book last 10 years or so. The main character travels and decides to give his blessing or power to a girl. For some reason I believe it leaves a moon shape on her forehead. He meets her later in life to find his gift to be more a curse and the girl is very strange. This is not the main plot but is what sticks out! Thanks everyone!

MJ | 1617 comments Maybe that dragon one that cane out around Harry potter? Eregon? Eragon? Something like that. Think the author was something like Christopher Palin maybe? He was only 13-14 when he started writing it. It was made into a movie too. H is a dragon rider which are all but extinct and he hatches a dragon egg... At some point, not sure which book, he blesses a orphan baby, but turns out he used the wrong phrasing so instead of being protected, she was a protector. The magic forced her to place herself to protect others even as a baby, so she forced herself to grow.

Angela | 625 comments Seconding Eragon from the Inheritance Cycle! That's exactly what happens with the character of Elva. From Wikipedia:

"Elva is an orphaned baby who, in the first book of the Inheritance Cycle, Eragon attempts to bless, but accidentally curses. (Eragon intends to say 'May you be shielded from misfortune', but accidentally says 'May you be a shield from misfortune'.) As a result, Elva is compelled to protect other people from misfortune at the cost of her own peace of mind."

I also remember she aged unusually fast (as MJ says), and even though she was a young girl, she spoke with the voice of a much older woman.
