Maria | 2 comments Published in the late 80s, early 90s. Ancient monarchy, 15 yr old girl is seduced by her fisherman stepfather in in his fishing nets. Mother gets enraged and decides to sell her. She has the girl undress and bathe while the slave traders peek through holes in the wall. She is sold and taken off to serve the king.

She learns her trade and begins to make alliances with powerful people and soon develops a following of her own. Her power grows and I can't remember the ending but she is quite something.

Thanks in advance for your help. This was a really good book.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 43 comments I'm here to concur with Michele that the description fits Maia by Adams. I'll never forget that fishing net scene, and I read this in the eighties.

Christine (seagal825) | 6 comments I found this book as a teen in my high school library. I couldn't believe what I was reading at the time and having just turned 15 I couldn't help but feel dirty while reading it...Its a great book and now that its on my mind I can't wait to track down a copy of my own. Its over two decades later so I hope its as good as I remember.
