What are your thoughts on The Nest?! It's been a great spring read so far for me. Very reminiscent of Liane Moriarty the way all the storylines are weaving together.

message 2: by Leane (new)

Leane I loved this book! The Plumb family learned many lessons, suffered losses, gained insight, learned to start over and be happy with what they had.
I really enjoyed the tie in between Tommy and Matilda & Vinnie.

Tanelle Nash Next book on my TBR pile!

message 4: by Kim (new)

Kim WV I'm only on part 2, chapter 11 but it's ok so far. I'm listening to it rather than reading it. I can't say I'm drawn to like any of the characters yet but I'm going on the journey with them. I'll post again when I'm further in.

message 5: by Tanelle (new)

Tanelle Nash I agree with you Kim. I ended up starting it last night and I'm not really enjoying it based on the characters. I use books to escape from real life and this one is too close to what's going on for me right now as we're in a bad recession and both my husband and I are unemployed and having trouble finding jobs. Our province is heavily reliant on oil and gas and when the economy crashed 2 years ago I lost my job. We managed to make it work so I could stay at home with our kids but then my husband lost his job this past fall. He's applied for over a thousand jobs and still hasn't found employment.

message 6: by Kim (new)

Kim WV I'm so sorry to hear this Tanelle. I hope your situation improves soon. You say province - where are you from?

message 7: by Tanelle (new)

Tanelle Nash We're just outside of Calgary, Alberta. We're hopeful that things will turn around soon. We both have interviews lined up for next week so fingers crossed.

Kim WV Oops. I guess emojis don't show here but I sent you 2 thumbs up!

message 10: by Diana (new)

Diana Reinhardt | 1 comments I'm on chapter 17 and so far, it's been kind of "meh" for me. Some of that might have to do with my stage in life, as I am a bit older than a lot in this group.

message 11: by Sylvia (new)

Sylvia | 18 comments I've given it a 3.6/3.7 out of 5 stars.

In case anyone is interested, I've posted my thoughts regarding the book in the "Book Corner" section of my blog, My Life And Such," http://www.mylifeandsuch.com/the-nest...

message 12: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay Gentles I feel like I missed something... this book is so loved by the masses but I just didn't enjoy it, like AT ALL! The characters were annoying, the story dragged and there really didn't seem to be a point to the book. Unimpressed

message 13: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (wakeangel) | 3 comments I agree with Lindsay.....this book was fairly awful. None of the characters were like able and it was a total snoozer. I started reading it the first of the month and just finished. It NEVER takes me this long to get through a book!!!! I was expecting a thriller as advertised and was extremely disappointed!

message 14: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Gardner | 1 comments I did struggle a bit when I started, but I'm intrigued to where the story is going. I tend to like books that the masses don't so I knew it was probably going to be a challenge.

message 15: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Ballard (captainswife) | 4 comments I personally am disgusted by all the smut that started on page two of the prologue. I'm really struggling with this one! Just my two cents for what it's worth.

message 16: by Tanelle (new)

Tanelle Nash I'm glad I toughed it out because I found the second half of the book better than the first half. Although I still hated most of the characters; I found them entitled and a little ridiculous.

message 17: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Krna | 11 comments I agree with Tanelle that the second half of the book was much better than the first half. Like most, I found it hard to empathize with most of the characters.

That said, I enjoyed the ending and it was nice to see how the characters developed after the events of the novel. I feel like most of the characters became much more likable and less entitled by the end. I don't want to spoil anything for those of us who try to avoid spoilers--so I'll end with that :)

message 18: by Karma (new)

Karma Banks (karmabanks) I was going to add this book to this months list but decided not to based on reviews. Thanks to all for the heads up.

message 19: by Kim (new)

Kim WV I will tough it out but I'm more than half way through and I'm only mildly more interested in it.

message 20: by Kim (new)

Kim WV I have to say that I don't really care what happens to anyone in this story.

message 21: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulakaye) I finished this book a week or so ago. I ended up liking it more than I did in the beginning. It surely wasn't a story that reached out and grabbed me from the start. I really like books that do that! Don't you? I didn't like any of the characters. They were a whiny bunch of entitled people. It really shows you what getting an inheritance can do to siblings. Halfway through the book I became more interested in the story. And by the end of the book I didn't find the characters to be so disagreeable. I can't say that I liked them by the end but I didn't so much dislike them. I think the author did a fair job on weaving all the characters together.

Happy Book Club Thursday Glam Readers!

Here's all the details for our live chat tonight, can't wait to see you soon. :)

Ice Breaker - What is your favorite spring tradition or memory?

1. How many stars would you rate The Nest and what was your experience reading the book?

2. Each sibling seems to feel that they are the ones who need the money from the Nest the most. Did you find yourself leaning toward the pleas or the argument of one sibling in particular, and if so, who, and why?

3. What was your favorite quote, character, scene or literary device from The Nest?

4. How would you live your life if you knew you were to receive a fair amount of money down the line?

5. How did you feel about the novel’s end, regarding Leo’s fate? Did the epilogue satisfy enough of your desire for a ‘happy ending,’ or with Leo’s absence, was it more melancholy than expected?

6. Ultimately, this book is about defining ourselves as individuals within a family (or even a career). How does each character learn who he or she is and what ultimately makes for a fulfilling life?

7. If you loved The Nest, you’ll also enjoy _____?

Kohinoor This book made me appreciate that most families (including mine) are somewhat dysfunctional.
