I recently bought Seven Nights of Sin by Lacey Alexander and Menagerie by Lara Santiago for a friend in a swap contest.

Personal Demon
Prodigal Son
City of Night
The Hunted
The Bitten
The Damned
Nice buys you guys. Feel free to add them to the group's August bookshelf: http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

Lauren, I know what you mean. When I saw that in my email I started to panic. I try to keep to my shopping list, but a 40% off coupon is SO hard to pass up. How about this, I'll help you not to feel bad about using it if you help me not to feel bad. :-)
P.S. At my local Borders, they do know my name. I get greeted by the cashiers as I walk in. lol

sounds like a plan. I decided no more books unless i have a 40% off coupon. I even know what book im gonna look for so i can get in and out with getting side tracked by the $1 books when you walk in.

Lauren, that's my plan. I never buy from Borders unless I have a coupon, but this one is really burning a hole in my pocket. You see %25 or %30 off every so often, but %40? I talked myself out of stopping there after work today, but I don't know if I'll be able to convince myself to do that again tomorrow. Wish me luck, towards achieving or not achieving going, I'm not sure. lol

Joseph, I went to borders but I swear its the last time unless I have a 40% off coupon. I have about
3 stacks of UNREAD books that I really must get down before I go buy another book. We need a 12step program.

Lauren, maybe, but a twelve-step in what direction? lol

12 steps away from the bookstore lol

hey looloo is keeping up with me!! yay! :D
Okay, I finally succumbed to the pressure, at least partially. I did go to Borders to use my 40% off coupon to buy Wicked Plants The Weed That Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities, but that is all I walked out with, even after looking at all the specials tables and the other shelves. I swore I would not buy anything at Borders without a coupon, no matter how much I wanted to.
On the other hand, I also walked out of the library today with four used books. That makes five books my total purchase quota for this month. So far.

Looloo, this is not working right! We're supposed to be trying to help each other stop buying so much, not buy more! lol. I convinced my sister to go back with me to Borders today so I could use two more 40% off coupons to get the two other books I wanted: The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane and The Jewel of Medina. That makes seven for me now. We don't need 12 steps away, we need 120! lol

Way to go Kyle!
I fell off the wagon again. I just bought 4 more books off eBay. I think that brings my total to 23 for Aug. and it's only the 9th of the month. This must stop!

My goal is to read all the unread books I own first unless there is a good deal or sale that I must go to. I have about 3 stacks haven't counted them all but i would at least 20 of them are unread. im calling it the book spending diet! haha

I'm trying to read one library book and then one book I own but haven't read. Sometimes I'm better at it than others. So far it's 157 library books to 111 books I own but hadn't read.

I think I have 137ish. They have their own bookcase. They sit there and taunt me.

"
haha they taunt you....

They totally do! And then get all mad when I read one of the many books I have out from the library. But I've been getting the latest book in most of the series I'm following from the library, plus library books have a due date, unlike books I own so they tend to get read first. But then I feel guilty when I buy a book because I already own so many I've never read.

I understand. I have alot at home too that when i go out and come home with another books its like ok did i really need that book right now with all these others sitting here..
As for the library... I like to own my books cause its too much pressure for me to read with a time limit hehehe. Plus my library doesn't ever have what I want at the time.

You guys got me curious. Check out this poll I made to find out from our group what the range of unread books we own are among us: http://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/22...

Are you going to have a separate poll for non-fiction books?
I think the results will be interesting!

Sure, will do. In fact, anyone can make a poll. Feel free to do so or to start another thread of discussion among the topics here.

Good luck with that Lauren!! LOL :P

LOL @ Lauren! You are killing me!

Yes I think you do! I'm sure your hubby would be a good escort LOL :P

LOL! See you DO need an escort whenever you leave work or your house LOL, LOL

My Achille's heal got me again. I withdrew a bunch more books at the library and ended up taking home two of them. And then this morning I see Borders is offering another 40% off coupon for any paperback! It's got me wondering if Borders is really hurting, they seem to offering so many deals lately. I hope they are ok, but if they aren't, they are certainly getting plenty of help from me. lol

I said my next book to but would be Covet and that comes out at the end of september.

Lauren wrote: "Joseph I saw that coupon too. I litterly said a really bad word when I saw that. But Im trying to be strong.

I feel the same way. I want to get
Living with the Dead in paperback, but that does not come out until later this month.
But then again, 40% off a paperback is hard to pass up. I'm sure if I just go browsing, I'll find something, which may or may not be such a good thing. lol

Its so hard to pass up. I acutally didn't print my coupon yet. I am too chicken to delete it but so far strong enough not to print it.

I find when I go to a bookstore I either find about 20 books I want to buy or they all sound the same and none of them sound appealing. I have no idea why that is.
I don't like Borders as much as I used to. I used to love their book displays, I thought they were much, much better than B&N's book displays. Now they're more equal and less interesting. A sign of the financial times, I'm afraid.
I don't know if you're gonna be proud or upset with me, but I went into Borders after work today with that 40% off paperbacks coupon, pulled off the shelves a couple of books I would like to own, and decided that just because I had the money and just because I had that coupon did not mean I should buy a book I hadn't planned on, so I walked out empty handed. Please tell me I did the right thing. :-(
